Bailey was flopped on her bed, scrolling through some sort of social media. As she was sitting there, bored out of her mind, Natalie entered the room.
"Oh, there you are," she started. "I'm gonna head over to the art store downtown, so I'll see you in a bit."
"Wait, why? You just went yesterday," Bailey asked.
"I know, but I need drawing supplies. Plus they have a huge sale on. I'll probably be about two hours."
"Wait," Bailey said as she sat up. She pulled her hair out from her lip gloss. "Can I come, too?"
Natalie looked at Bailey with confusion while she was grabbing her purse. "Bailey, you don't give a care in the world for art stuff."
"I-I know, but I wanna be with you."
Natalie clutched her purse and questioned, ".. what?"
"No, I mean like-"
"Oh. Oh no. Dan didn't dump you, did he?"
Bailey sat up and laughed, "Ha, no way, Dan loves me, I mean why wouldn't he? I'm so beautiful, and graceful, and-"
"And modest, too," Natalie sarcastically added.
"Exactly."
"So then, what's with you?"
Bailey glanced at her phone to look at the whole zero notifications, and tried to come up with a good excuse. "Well," she started, "it's just.. I mean, Dan's hanging out with some old friends, and all my friends are busy doing stuff for school.."
"You're lonely, aren't you?" Natalie figured.
"Pfft, no. No! I'm not lonely." Natalie stared at Bailey. "Okay, yeah I'm lonely," Bailey admitted.
"Well, why don't you just call someone?" Natalie suggested.
"No, they're all hanging out and doing their own thing. Like stuff for school."
Natalie opened the door. "You could always play with your makeup for a while," she said while leaving the room and headed downstairs.
Bailey flopped back down on the bed and sighed. "Fine," she said, "I guess I'll just stay on my phone for like ten hours."
About two and a half hours of sitting on her phone and napping, Bailey finally heard the front door opening. She opened the bedroom door and shouted, "What took you so long? You were gone for like ages!"
Natalie stuttered a bit and tried to put her stuff down. "I know, it's just-" she was interrupted by a sudden sharp noise.
Bailey scowled. "You just what?" She started walking down the stairs.
"No, I had to-" another interruption from the same kind of noise
"You had to what now? What did you even get?"
Natalie sighed and set the box-like container on the ground. "I guess I can't keep it a secret," she said. She pinched the front of the box and opened a small hatch, and out ran a big ball of fluff.
Bailey stood on the fourth step of the stairs and muttered, "That.. that's a dog, isn't it..?"
Natalie called the dog over by snapping and it immediately ran over to Bailey. "I figured you've wanted one for a while," Natalie began, "and you've been lonely lately. So I thought you could have someone who'll never be too busy for you!"
Bailey jumped up and hugged Natalie, and screamed, "Thank you!!" She pushed Natalie away and grabbed the maltipoo off the floor. "What's her name?"
