Amy screamed as she fell through the sky. She felt the wind come up lifting the skirt of her dress and warm arms encasing her against a hard chest. Tears welled in her eyes as she picked up speed with the fall. They were going to die right then she just knew it. Her and whats-his-name were going to hit the pavement, she was too young to die! Maybe River was right she should have done more, maybe joined a team, had a boyfriend…. “Offf”
Amy’s breath was knocked out of her as she landed none too lightly on the top of a…bush? She looked around, her hands grasped green leaves that scratched at her already dry hands. There was a bush on a roof? Someone’s garden? More importantly she was alive! Amy’s eyes widened the second her view did. All around her were what looked like blimps in the sky and buildings of magnificent height made of beautiful colored steel. The sky was dark and though there were no stars a large full moon hung in the sky almost red in appearance. Muted lights from the streets below gave a magical feel of a city still awake, but a bit hazy like it was full of sleep walkers rather than the “busy bodies” New York was known for.
“Get off of me.” Amy looked down and almost jumped off of the white shirt she was sitting on.
“Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry!!”
“So now she wants to be friendly.” The guy smirked.
“This she has a name you know!”
“Well I’m all ears are you going to tell me or not?”
This guy, he just jumps out of a plane after some ,what, recon mission or whatever the hell he was doing with some girl he just met and he just acts like this just a day in the life of the silver haired wonder.
“Amy,” She replied putting her hands on her hips “what about you do you have a name?”
“Zero…” he said reaching for his cap which was now missing “damn it you made me lose my cap! It was my favorite too!”
“I’m no expert at this running from the law thing, but shouldn’t we not be in plain sight “Zero”?”
“Smarter than she looks.” Zero smirked and motioned for Amy to follow him. The two made their way to a fire escape on the side of the building. At least this was something familiar Amy thought. She walked awkwardly with the heel of her boot upsetting her balance by about two inches. She needed freedom in her movement to climb down the escape better. This time she was able to pull of the brown boot with ease. Assessing its weight in her hand she decided against taking it with her and tossed it to the side of the roof sadly.
Your favorite hat, my favorite shoes, now were even Amy thought to herself as she stepped in front of Zero. “What do you think you’re doing?” He asked looking taken aback. “Taking the lead going down, I am wearing a skirt after all, and I don’t want your eyes wandering up there!” Zero held his hands to his chest acting as if his heart just shattered inside him, “Me? Never!”
“I feel violated enough for one day thank you very much.” Amy grabbed the side of the metal ladder with ease and started her descent as she had done many times in the past. The familiarity of cold iron sliding against her palm brought everything back. This wasn’t home, she wasn’t in Brooklyn anymore to say the least and that thought almost made her cry. She was abducted, violated, skydiving, and hanging out with strange men… a bit too much for a girl to take who’s idea for a night out was listening to sixteen year olds rant about their parents in rhymed verse.
The building had to at least be 10 floors, around what her apartment was back home. She was climbing in silence, but was secretly hoping for conversation anything to make this whole situation seem a little less, in lack of a better word, weird.
“Hey when you get to the fifth floor stop for a bit.” I looked up to see Zero looking down at me his gray eyes serious.
“Sure thing…” I mumbled and continued down counting the floors below me, mentally to make sure I landed at the correct window. I stopped at the small grated area by the window and waited for Zero. He looked at me smugly and cracked his knuckles approaching the window.
He squatted down and tried to lift it up from the bottom to no avail. If he was trying to show off it wasn’t impressing Amy very much.
“What now genius,” she asked “If this is your house shouldn’t you have a ke-“
CRASH
Amy jumped back as shards of glass flew around them. “What was that for!” She yelled at him. “Not my home.” Zero shrugged and slipped into the building. “Well if it’s not your home how did you know that no one would be here.” Zero ignored Amy and found a lamp sitting on the center of a small wooden table. Cursing under his breath he finally managed to turn it on and a soft warm glow illuminated the room.
“Seriously where are we, do you break into homes on a regular basis or som-“
“Shut up! Seriously do you ever stop talking!” Amy was taken aback she didn’t think she was talking that much and who was he to call her out for it she was having possibly the worst night of her life!
“Listen here Zero, don’t tell me what to do. If you haven’t noticed I’m a little confused I just jumped out of plane after some guy injected me in the freaking neck with some sedative and chained me to a bed,” Amy was walking fiercely up to Zero jamming her finger hard on to his chest, “and you expect me to CALM DO-“ Amy was caught by surprise as Zero moved his head in and kissed her!
She started to hit his chest and push away, but the kiss was warm and spread warmth through her whole body, everything inside her went numb. Amy’s legs gave way from beneath her and her sleeping body collapsed into Zeros arms.
Zero grabbed Amy from under her arms and dragged her onto the couch that was against the wall on the far side of the room. He tossed her onto it and a satisfying cloud of dust came up in response. Oh she was going to love that he smirked.
With a long exasperated breath Zero sat down at the table. Finally some peace and quiet, he could now maybe try to think of a plan.
