You closed the door behind you and turned around to see your empty apartment once again. You slipped off your shoes by the entryway. Your mom wasn't back yet. You walked into your room and sat down to pet the beast that was once again, fast asleep. The bedroom door had a full length mirror mounted onto the backside. You crawled over to it and looked at yourself. You looked tired and it showed. Pink was marked onto the surface of your cheeks and your nose was raw. Your eyes were rimmed with a faint red color. You hoped that tonight you would get some much needed sleep. There was still the moving haul to worry about in the morning, but you could still get plenty of sleep, if you didn't stay up late, like you were prone to doing.

The front door clicked open and you heard your mom enter. "I'm back!" You rushed out of your bedroom and into the living room where they sat.

"Did everything go okay?"

"The restaurant was super busy. I'm sorry I took so long, sweetie." your mom said as she passed you a styrofoam to-go box with a set of plastic silverware. "Got you your favorite, steak alfredo."

"Thanks mom." You shoveled a bite into your mouth and felt the still-hot food melt in your mouth. The flavors filled your senses. The warm food sent chills down your cold spine and spread warmth to your body from inside out. Steak was your favorite and the meal was one of your favorites. You noted to yourself that you'd have to try dining in at the restaurant sometime so you could experience it fresh.

"Oh my god. This is amazing! We have to eat here in person sometime."

"I was just thinking the same thing, kiddo." your mom giggled as she too was shoveling the pasta into her mouth."I'm glad you like it too." your mom smiled.

You and your mon calmly finished dinner and cleaned up afterwards. Your stomach felt full and content. It was the perfect way to end the night. Sleepiness washed over you and you yawned.

"Tired, sweetie? Why don't you go grab your blanket and pillow from the car and get ready for bed?" You nodded and pulled your shoes back on. You grabbed the car keys off the counter before heading out the door. You walked through the silent and empty hallways. The light thuds of your steps bouncing off the walls. It's around midnight. Everyone should be long asleep by now.

You exit through the front doors and make your way around the building to the parking lot. It's just as peaceful out here as when you were outside earlier with Sal. There were only a few street lamps that lit up the parking lot and outside area. You spotted the car in the distance and started walking towards it. You pulled your arms in close to you and crossed them on your chest as you felt a crisp breeze hit your skin.

The car door is within reach. You held up the car keys in your hand to the handle, but a sound from behind startled you. You jumped and your heart skipped a beat. The keys fell onto the pavement with a clatter, as you quickly turned around toward the sound. It sounded like rustling. Like tree branches or shrubs being moved. Plants like that lined the perimeter of the parking lot and the building. You exhaled. You were holding your breath. You figured it was just an animal. It was nighttime, afterall. You grabbed the keys from the ground and got what you needed from the car.

You headed back inside with your things.

You were once again back at the apartment. You threw your shoes by the door and left the keys on the kitchen counter. You walked into your room and set up a make-shift bed with your blanket and pillow. It wasn't much of a bed, but you were so tired that you didn't care. It was only one night that you'd have to sleep on the ground. Once you were done, you headed into the bathroom to wash up before bed.

"Night, mom!"

"Goodnight, y/n!"

You turned off your light, got onto the floor and curled up in your floor bed. It was a cold tonight, but thankfully the apartment's heating worked well.
