Wilton got back to his Family one Friday night and not everyone was excited to see him especially Jake. Ever since the issue that happened in the book store, Jake had been very quiet and restricted. He hugged his dad and went upstairs while his fathee showered Hailee with gifts. When the night came, Jake just stared at the ceiling lost in thoughts when his dad came through. Wilton rested on the table reading table.
“Hey Jake” Wilton said
“I missed you” muttered Jake
“Me too” Wilton stared at him deeply
“Your mum told me everything. I understand you are pissed off but just let go”
“I’m not holding onto anything”
“Well anything you are holding onto is related to your grandfather” he heaved a deep sigh “I know I don’t know how it feels to lose someone like that. Believe me when I say my childhood was awful growing up without a dad. I just had to let go and move on and I think you should too”
Jake frowned “I don’t think you understand”“I do”
“’Am I the only one who thinks he didn’t commit suicide?” Jakes blue eyes started to gather tears.
“For Christ sake they found him…” the image in his head but Wilton had to watch his words, Jake was fragile. “Do you know why I believe?”
“Yeah, because he was crazy. that’s what you guys say” Jake wailed
“He went to an asylum twice!”
“Come on” Jake responed looking away " he would have told me something. I swear he would have told me something”
“ I can’t argue with you Jake . I have told you the truth”
Wilton paused and then there was a moment of silence. He deepened his hand into the pocket of his shirt and brought out something that he held tightly. “Well, I just wanted to let you know before I travelled I stopped by the hospital and they gave me his stuffs… I am sure he would have wanted you to have it” Wilton said and revealed a silver chain.
Wilton continued “He never took it off or gave me and now it’s yours”
Jake collected the chain “ It was very precious to him, thanks dad. This means a lot”“ I just wanted you to have it. Please Jake, just let him go”
Jake nodded. Wilton gave him a faint smile and then left the room. Jake stood up from the chair and sat on his bed. As he stared at the chain his grandfather’s voice echoed in his head. He was so happy to have his chain.
“If it’s the last thing I will do, I am going to find out who killed you, I swear” Jake said and finally wore the chain that laid perfectly on his chest. Immediately lightning struck at Seville hill, the land of the dead.
***Jake woke up immediately in a pool of sweat. He was trying to catch his breath.
No, it was not the dream he had of himself drowning in a well, he felt like he was suffocating. Night after night still the same night mares. Jake was starting to wonder if there was something really wrong with him. Maria stood by the door as she watched her only son stare blankly at the ceiling she was starting to get worried now.
“Jake” she said almost in a whisper“Are you sure you can make it for the church service? Uncle Mac can pick you up later you know”
Jake was still stiff; he didn’t even move an inch. “Jake” Maria said coming closer. His eyes were still fixed on the ceiling. Maria sat on the bed beside him. She examined him for a moment and when she touched his hand, he suddenly jerked up screaming. When he realized it was his mother, he stopped. Maria panicked as she stared at him.
