The Phone Call

"This is Eleanor Quinn speaking," I held the phone between my ear and my shoulder as I stirred the sizzling sauce in front of me. My phone was practically buzzing off the counter as I tried to make myself a decent meal for the first time since I returned from my last mission. Mr. Y, who runs the Chinese restaurant down the street, was beginning to judge my daily dinner pickups.

"Quinn, when I call you I expect you to answer ya damn phone." The harsh voice raced through my head as I tried to place where I recognized it from. Shit, it was Nick Fury.

I quickly turned off the burner and moved the sauce to the free burner in the back, "Fury, I am so sorry, I'm trying to make something slightly edible. If I knew it was you I would've picked up sooner," I rambled as I tried to drain the pasta into the strainer sitting in the sink with one hand, "Speaking of, why are you calling?"

"I need your help on a mission. I want you to join a few of the Avengers in Russia in two weeks." Fury's gruff voice boomed through the phone. Something in me felt like he was watching me at that very minute, no that's impossible. I looked around. There's no way, he's in DC and I'm back in my little cabin resting in the deep woods of Oregon.

"Umm, sure. Yeah, what's the mission?" I leaned up against the cool counter, still keeping an eye out on the dense, lush forest outside the kitchen window.

"My team will catch you up to speed when you arrive in New York next week to do some research and recon with them. I've already scheduled a Quinjet to pick you up on Monday." Always so efficient.

"Thank you sir." I've never met the Avengers before, let alone be within 50 feet of them, "Will I need to find my own place to stay or has that been arranged too?" I added in a slightly snarkier tone than I originally planned.

"Well I did find you a room in a nice hotel, but if you prefer to ruff it out on the street, by all means Agent Quinn." He retorted back. Damn, that man always has a comeback.

"No sir, the hotel will do nicely."

"Good, I'll send you the address shortly and the team will meet you when you arrive." I almost thought I could hear a twinge of worry in his voice, but then again this is Nick Fury.

"Thank you sir."

I moved to hang up the phone when I heard him speak again, "Quinn?"

"Sir?" I held the phone back up to my ear.

"Try not to use your powers on them." I heard a click to end his request. Shit, I hadn't even thought about that. I had the privilege no one else did. To be inside the Avenger's head. This was gonna be fun.

A/N:

So this chapter was really just an intro to Eleanor and her little situation with the mission, how she was contacted. As you can see, she's a little sassy and sarcastic (even to people like Fury). She's a little mischievous so keep an eye out for a little of her antics.
