When I woke up Pietro was pulling in the driveway of a little house in a suburban area, children flooded back into the street in the bright sun. He looked over at me as he put the car in park, Well, hello sleeping beauty. I gave him a sleepy smile as I stretched out my back. He grabbed my bag out of the backseat, rounding the car to open the door for me. He looked around the front yard, finding a painted rock with a key taped underneath. He unlocked the house, giving it a quick sweep before allowing me to follow him inside. I plopped down on the couch as he looked in the fridge that had been freshly stocked before our arrival. He pulled out 2 cold beers then moved to join me on the couch. Using a key chain from his keyring, he popped the lids off the bottles, offering one out to me. I took a long draw out of it before placing it on the coffee table in front of us.
"You are 21 right?" He paused after taking a sip of his own.
"Yes, I'm 22 actually." I laughed as he took another drink from his bottle.
"Good, good. Fury would've killed me if you weren't." He leaned forward, placing his bottle opposite on the coffee table as mine.
"Yeah. Look, we need to talk about something." I looked down, pulling the dog tags I was wearing back and forth across the chain.
"What's up." Pietro shifted so that he was facing me, one leg lying bent on the couch as the other sat with his foot on the floor.
"I don't really like telling people about this but after the events of today, I think you need to know." He gave me a confused look, not quite tracking my train of thought. "When I was 15, I was captured by Hydra. They had found out my abilities and watched me until they had the perfect moment to strike. I was at the mall with some friends when I was suddenly pulled into a store with a hand over my mouth and felt a pinching feeling on my neck. When I woke up, I was in a Hydra base with my arms and legs strapped to a chair." Pietro placed his hand on top of mine, taking a draw from his beer with the other. "They tortured me in many attempts to brainwash me, but my powers make me immune to brainwashing. Eventually, I gave in because I thought they were going to kill me if I didn't. I trained with them, gathered intel for them in interrogations, and on my 21st birthday they sent me out on a mission. I was supposed to interfere with the investigation of some CIA agents, I saw it as an opportunity for escape." I paused to take a drink of my beer, failing to wash down the lump I felt in my throat. "I managed to escape from Hydra's watchful eyes and make contact with the CIA agents." Pietro shifted closer to me, rubbing his thumb over my hands.
"What does that have to do with what happened today?"
"Well, in order to get protection from the CIA I had to give up a lot of valuable Hydra information I had collected over the years. The Hydra base I was kept in got shut down because of what I told them." I took one final, long drink from my beer, placing the empty bottle back on the coffee table.
So you think Hydra is after you. "You know, I volunteered for a Hydra program a while ago. They gave me powers from one of those infinity stones." They could be after me too. I nodded, slumping back on the couch to face the blank TV. Pietro leaned over to the side table, grabbing the remote and turning on the small black screen. I looked around at my surroundings as he found a channel with something good on. The small house was filled with slightly outdated furniture, covered in drab wallpaper and paint colors. Pictures of a stock photo family were displayed in frames scattered about the house. It was a one story house, two little bedrooms and an even smaller bathroom. I felt Pietro's arm fall down on the couch behind me, Elle look. I shifted my attention to the TV that was playing an old sitcom, fake laughter filling the air. I scooted closer to him making it so our bodies were only inches apart.
We mindlessly watched TV until the kids on the street were called inside, an eerie quiet filled the place of childish screaming. Pietro had fallen asleep after only a few episodes and light snores escaped his mouth infrequently. I carefully slipped out from under his arm, cautious not to wake him. I padded lightly over to the kitchen and looked in the stocked fridge. I pulled out pork chops, asparagus and brussel sprouts, grabbing some cookie sheets as I searched through the cabinets. I prepped the food, setting them aside to start on the seasoning. I laid the asparagus out on their own tray as I seasoned the pork chops, leaving space for the brussel sprouts to fill the rest of the tray. I seasoned each item in olive oil and my rosemary seasoning mix as the oven continued to preheat. I dumped the tossed brussel sprouts around the pork chops, hearing the oven beep as I rinsed off my hands. As I slid the trays into the oven I heard movement on the couch. Groggily, Pietro sat up, rubbing his eyes and looking around. What time is it?
"Well, hello sleeping beauty." I joked as his eyes landed on me in the kitchen, "Dinner will be ready soon." Oh, thanks. He turned off the TV that had changed its programming to an outdated cheesy movie. He walked into the kitchen, leaning up on the counter across from me.
"We should probably call Steve and Nat." He reached deep into his pocket to pull out his phone. I nodded, looking back at the timer for dinner. "Hey, Steve. It's Pietro." He pulled the phone away from his ear, putting it on speaker.
"- how are you guys doing? Fury told us what happened." Steve's voice boomed through the phone.
"We're doing okay. We've been in a safe house, just hanging out." I replied, searching through drawers for hot mitts.
"Good, well I don't think we should train in Stark tower anymore. It's too public." He paused for a moment before continuing, "Pietro, bring her to the compound, we'll train here."
Pietro paused for a minute, scanning my face, "Are you sure?"
"It's our only choice." I heard Nat reply on the other end. I didn't even know that the Avengers had a compound. I assumed that they all lived in separate houses and would just meet up to train or respond to missions. Pietro raised the phone up to his ear, finishing up the conversation as I pulled out the food from the oven. I felt his hands grab my arms lightly, his cold rings rubbing up and down gave me goosebumps. This smells amazing Elle. I smiled, grabbing two plates and loading them full with food. He grabbed both the plates, setting them on the table as I grabbed some silverware and napkins.
"So, your story from earlier," He looked up at me as I sat down across from him, "Is that how you got your job at the CIA?" Pietro took a forkful of food into his mouth.
"Yeah. after they found out about my powers, they offered me a job." I cut into the steaming pork chop in front of me.
We enjoyed dinner and the couple hours following, laughing and talking until it was dark and the neighborhood dogs stopped barking. Even the few kids that had trickled back outside after dinner had retreated to the safety of their warmly lit homes. I had scrolled through my phone to find photos of Pietro and I plastered all over the internet. 'Love Interest or New Avenger?', 'Has Quicksilver Finally Found his Match?', 'Stark Building Sighting: Addition to the Avengers Made Public' passed by as I read through the ridiculous articles, none accurate.
"Oh, listen to this one. 'Quicksilver Runs Out of Stark Tower With Mystery Girl'" Pietro chuckled to himself as he read the article aloud. "'Pietro Maximoff, Quicksilver, was found ushering a woman out of Stark Tower early this afternoon. Many rumors have spread including one that this mystery girl is the daughter of another Avenger. Many claim that this woman will be making more appearances and we expect to see her official announcement to the public in a press conference this week.'" As if you need to address the public for walking out of Stark Tower. I let out a long yawn as he searched for another article to fuel his amusement.
"I think I'm going to head to bed. It's been a long day." I gave him a sleepy smile as he looked up from his phone. Oh, ok.
"Goodnight Princesa." Pietro called out as I shuffled over to the bedroom with my luggage in it. I changed into a pair of sweat-shorts and a bralette, slipping under the soft sheets as I heard Pietro's footsteps retreat into his own room. The soft sounds of the suburb lulled me to sleep.

A/N:
I know that this chapter is kind of a whole lot of nothing but what do you guys think about Elle's backstory. I do have more to add to it (about the dog tags and how Hydra discovered her powers). If you guys have any suggestions for possible ways that she gained her powers I would be open to using them. I always imagined she's had them since she was about 5-6 or she was born with them. Also I've got more stuff on what her time at Hydra was like and maybe some overlap with her and Bucky. The whole suburban vibe for Elle and Pietro is so cute to me.
Anyways, let me know all your thoughts!
