It was the beginning of summer. The sun decided to bless the land with beams of light and the light bursts of wind balanced it out perfectly. The perfect walking weather.
You had decided to take a gap year before continuing your education (which Bucky and Steve fully supported) and you had been anxiously awaiting your acceptance letter for, well any college you applied to but specifically, Brooklyn College.
So, as you had been doing for the past month, you grabbed Juno's leash for your apartment's coat rack and started your walk.
You weren't really paying attention until suddenly you had finished your route and were back at the apartment building already.
The confusion you felt was almost laughable, you had zoned out for your entire walk.
So many bad things could've happened... that was lie really dangerous... eh... your fine.
You had more important things to worry about right now, you were going to check your mailbox for what felt like the 5,000th time this week.
There was a lot more mail than there usually was, you started scanning through it.
You were giddy as you noticed several letters from colleges you'd applied to. There were also two letters for Bucky, one from his workplace and one from his sister, and two letters for Steve, one from his mother and one from an artist acquaintance of his.
You looked through all of the different envelopes to reach the rather large one at the bottom of the stack. In big bold letters read: Brooklyn College.
You smiled with the force of a thousand suns and started running to the apartment, Juno matching your speed. You had gotten into Brooklyn College, that's what big envelopes mean right?
You threw open the door to find Steve calmly panting on his easel from the couch, and Bucky sitting next to him, book in hand.
You almost laughed when Steve jumped, but instead you ran over and tackled your roommates in a bone crushing hug, letters falling on the floor beside you.
Bucky laughed at your enthusiasm and slowly guided you off of Steve, who was now slightly immobile from the shock.
"Doll, I think you broke him," he giggled and then softened at the look on your face, "who do I need to thank for making you this happy?"
At those words you scrambled towards the pile of letters pushing the easel aside and snatching up the largest in the pile. Steve slowly sat up, very slowly, and leaned against the couch, smiling.
You proudly displayed the bold letters on the envelope to your boyfrrrr- men you're seeing.
"Did you open it yet?" Steve asked, clearly happy for his girlfrrrrr- GAL HE IS SEEING.
"Not yet, figured I'd wait until I got into the apartment." You said, now throwing the none college aligned letters at their respective recipients.
"All right, Doll. How about you start with the others and save the best for last." Bucky said, having you sit in-between him and Steve on the floor. Your pile of 5 letters now sat neatly in you lap.
You didn't really pay attention to which one you grabbed first, you just ripped it open. Bucky had his arm wrapped around your shoulders and Steve rested his head on the other.
The first four letters were small, you knew what that meant but that didn't make it hurt any less.
They all started with the same "Dear (Y/N) (L/N), we regret to inform you," and so on.
You were really upset but you laughed it off, confident about the final letter in the pile.
Your boys didn't say it then, but they could almost feels the nerves radiating off of you. Although you tried to conceal it, they could tell how much those rejection letters bothered you.
