I am From (cool poem)

I am from contradictions

I am of trees and chemicals

I come from pencil shavings and perspiration

I am of Paper and Lead

 

I am of Shadows

Black & white & grey

Alternately portray

Scenes of trains; flaring, pounding, hurdling down rusting tracks

Through warm air and moonlit darkness, lanterns held  aloft

And black holes as NYC alleyways

Dark & mysterious; dangerous paths in a crumbling cement & steel city,

As well as lilac bushes & Japanese cherry blossom trees

Pretty ponds of rippling ink surfaces, silken petals still in the air

Soft & peaceful; relaxation incarnate

I am from Drawings and Charcoal

 

I am of awe-inspiring landscapes

From the vivacious red-orange rock formations of Zion Park, Utah

And the towering green pines draped in a shadowy fog

That writhed through paths forgotten, slowly creeping to encompass the molding logs

To the brilliant blues of the World of Ice Giants; the ice caves of Werfen, Austria

Not to exclude the yellow-green glowing plankton surfacing far out at sea

Royal purples mixed with majestic, deep blues of depthless space at midnight

I am from Pastels & Visions

I thrive in the many worlds of words

Word-benders were my role models;

William Shakespeare showed me sophistication, love, and tragedy

Sherrilyn Kenyon showed me pain, the art of saving, and happily-ever-afters

John Flanagan showed me curiosity, reaping what you sow, and characterization

Brent Weeks showed me sacrifice, emotionally agonizing sympathetic tears, and rebirth

I am from Words & Honour

Spiderman inspired, sparking guilt, anger, and morals

Batman intrigued, introducing a man wrapped in shadows and mystique

Superman stood strong; showing me courage, modesty, & humility

Tony Stark flounced, urging me to gain confidence in myself to be happier

Hulk towered, introducing self-discipline and control

Captain personified good, excellently modeling proper behavior & bravery

Hawkeye & Black Widow introduced me to the Shadows; trust & treachery

I am from Legends and Heroes
