Shio was met with a medium-sized room. It had a silver medal on the front wall, but that was the only thing special about it. It had a single bed on the side and a cabinet next to it. The drawers perfectly fitted the weapons, so Shio placed his hero shot in one of the cabinets. Upon the table sat a single picture frame. Shio hung his gear on the armor rack mounted on the wall. He called it a day and went to sleep.
Shio woke up to the sound of an announcement about to start.
"Attention all soldiers. Please head out of your dorms and go to the army grounds. I repeat, please head out of your dorms and attend roll call," the voice announced plainly.
My first day in the Inkling army, huh. Shio thought. I'll be sure to make a grand debut today.
He did his standard morning routine and opened his dorm's door. He saw many Inklings walking through the hall and going north, so Shio assumed that's where roll chat will be held. The halls were filled with mindless chatter and shuffling. As Shio left the end of the hallway, he could see Sairento and Marie were already standing in the middle of the field. Like a good friend, he joined them before roll call started.
After a simple roll call, they were led into a large cafeteria. It was an all-you-can-eat buffet, with a disgusting amount of food sections. Breakfast wasn't too exciting; tables got called in a very predictable manner. Shio got himself a nice plate of grilled salmon. Marie got shrimp salad, Callie got lobster bisque, and Sairento got arctic char fillet with a side of fries. Now, being the man with the most swagger and drip in the building, he didn't mind Shio and Callie taking his fries on occasion. Well, that was an understatement. The guy hardly got to enjoy any of his fries.
"I vow to enact revenge on all those who have injusticed me," Sairento declared solemnly.
"Oh, spare me," Marie responded, full of sarcasm. Sairento clenched his fist, stating that, "Oh, I assure you, the day of reckoning will come, and this world shall know pain."
"I can get you some new fries," Shio offered.
"LET'S GOOO!" Sairento was overjoyed.
This reminds me of a certain rapper. Shio thought. With noble conviction, Shio gave his familiar, Sairento, a whole plate of fries.
"Thanks to this humble man's offering, this world shall no longer face retribution," Sairento mercifully announced.
"My liege, I believe that hardships approach us," Marie said firmly.
"Yes, my lord," Shio and Sairento said simultaneously.
"Are living in castles now?" Callie asked.
"Precisely, plebeian servant," Sairento answered for Marie.
"This is worse than being sniped by Marie," Callie groaned.
"Silence peasant, for we must commence forth," Shio said in a terrible accent. As if on cue, the loudspeakers blared overhead.
"Attention soldiers, please go to the training grounds."
"I'm gonna roll you guys over," Callie said with a smirk. Then she ran off, retelling the same fantasy over and over again.
"My lord, may I snipe the runaway servant?" Marie asked. She had switched roles with Sairento in the Squidbeak Hierarchy.
"You may," Sairento snickered.
The three had a laugh and then headed to the training grounds. The place was just a flat plane of concrete. There was, however, a fort smack in the middle of it all. The sergeant explained that there would be two teams. Team Blue would defend the base, while Team Orange would raid it.
