Finally, Day 10

The story of this event started fairly normal. The soldiers would wake up and do their morning routine. Roll call would be boring as always, and then they would go eat breakfast. Cuttlefish walked to the salad section and got his standard mix of vegetables consisting of lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes, sweet peppers, and radish. He then applied his tartar-style dressing and went to his group table.

He saw that only Wahoo was at the table with his signature board of grilled, steamed, poached, fried, and even raw fish. He also had some fish soup on the side of his seafood monstrosity.

"Hey man! How ya doing on this fine morning?" Wahoo greeted.

"It's just another normal morning. I'm doing fine," Cuttlefish replied.

"That's great! Oh yeah, I heard there may be a battle today. Think we can finally make a grand debut?" Wahoo said.

"You say that every day," Cuttlefish sighed.

"But there's a chance every day, isn't there?"

Wahoo is truly a different type of breed. Cuttlefish thought.

"Well I hope our group can get some spotlight even though we totally bombed the Recruit Competition," Cuttlefish sighed yet again.

"Don't worry about it! I'm sure the time will come even if it takes years or even decades! Plus the competition is still ongoing anyway!" Wahoo assured.

I really like his motivation, but every day I'm reminded by the fact Wahoo decided to not do any charges since "they weren't the big fish he was looking for." Cuttlefish thought. Shortly after, the two other members of their group appeared.

"Yo! It's the first couple ever to have a child in the war camp! Blackfin and Coral!" Wahoo exclaimed, "By the way, what did ya name him?"

"We haven't decided yet, it's only been like 2 days," Blackfin replied.

"Ah, then I trust that Wahoo 2 shall be his title?" Wahoo responded with sarcasm.

"Absolutely not," Coral replied earnestly.

"I will Inkstrike your house," Blackfin threatened jokingly. He spread his arms out as if he were giving a speech in some boring press conference.

"Anyways guys, what do you think will happen today?" Cuttlefish inquired.

"Probably nothing," Blackfin answered.

"Yeah, nothing," Coral agreed.

"Nothing at all!" Wahoo proclaimed.

Abruptly, the announcement speaker blurted out something.

"Attention all Inklings! The final day of the recruit competition will commence! All activities must be completed by midnight! I repeat, all activities must be completed by midnight!" the announcer declared.

"Might as well get some fishies!" Wahoo declared.

"Should've had that mindset on the first day!" Cuttlefish exclaimed.

"Whatever. Anyways, let's check out the war grounds," Wahoo suggested. The four got their weapons and ran to the wargrounds. They searched around but could only find one Octoling Army.

"Wanna go for it?" Wahoo asked.

"Of course," the other three said in unison. Wahoo revved up his special vehicle he called an inkjet and took to the skies. Being born of high nobility, he had a lot to live up to. He was required to master the art of craft and the art of war. With his inkjet, he was able to get a bird's eye view of the army. It seemed the other groups were attacking the army, but splatting the general would give the Inklings more clout. Wahoo could easily fly to where the general was and get an easy splat. However, the army was prepared for an airborne assault, sending Inkstrikes at the defenseless Wahoo.

Wahoo was able to dodge the missiles by a hair, but they kept coming. If he were to fall in a battle like this, his reputation would be tarnished!

"I may be the biggest star in the Inkling army, but even I need some cover!" Wahoo exclaimed to the other three.

"That's too bad. Guess you owe us some money," Cuttlefish replied.

"I'll add a free weapon improvement to that!" Wahoo exclaimed, this time even louder.

"It's a deal," Blackfin agreed.

"We should've bargained with him more," Cuttlefish said pensively.

"He needs our help, Cuttlefish!" Coral insisted.

"Ah, blast it," Cuttlefish responded. He joined the raging battle, getting ready to shoot the Inkstrikes out of the sky with his bamboozler. Meanwhile, Blackfin reached out to grab Wahoo's inkjet.

"Fly backwards, you cretin!" Blackfin complained. Wahoo started backing up, before protesting,

"I like the view thou-"

As soon as Wahoo was within reach, Blackfin yanked him out of the air. Unfortunately, the sudden change in elevation caused the extreme thrust of the inkjet exhaust to launch Wahoo into the air. Wahoo, in the heat of the moment, was not able to exercise his knowledge of flight and landed on his back. His inkjet sputtered and exploded, causing the poor guy to land with a hard thud.

Cuttlefish and Coral rushed over to help him up. They needed him alive to receive the promised goods, after all. Blackfin superjumped back to the army grounds though, as he remembered Wahoo had a backup inkjet in his secret lair. Meanwhile, Octoling forces were encroaching on both sides.

"What we going to do now?" Wahoo asked.

"Well, we have to fight our way out. At least until Blackfin gets back with your second inkjet," Cuttlefish responded. Before the Octolings could advance further, Coral had already whipped out her Mini Splatling. Ink rained down upon the Octolings, netting Coral numerous splats. On the other frontier, Cuttlefish used his trusty Bamboozler to pick off assailants, near or far. Wahoo was trying to martial art his way out of the swarm of Octolings, disarming some and knocking out others. His offensive was decent, but he gained no splats.

As a child, Wahoo was able to win many martial arts tournaments, even becoming the best martial artist of his age. He had some boxing experience as well, but only about a year's worth.

The three held off the Octolings effectively, but at this pace, their chances of splatting the general were growing slimmer. Their ink was running low too, dimming the rays of hope. Octoling reserve forces charged forward, covering every direction, and overwhelming the Inklings.

They were from Octavio too with special uniforms, only increasing the despair that bedridden the Inklings. However, it seemed the Inklings' victory was still at reach, as the three saw Blackfin, running towards them with the second Inkjet.

PS: Sorry for the long wait, I know my ranking has decreased by a lot and that was because of vacation. Thank you all for waiting.
