It was time for the county fair and Luke was beyond excited to be going with his new date. But Alex was not as equally excited about the matter. He was worried someone would find out somehow though they had gone to the fair together plenty of times, as friends. Plus Reg and Bobby would be tagging along with their dates too.
"Reggie has a date?" Luke was more than surprised. Reg never was the type to talk to girls, or anyone outside the group for that matter.
"It's this girl named Bea Olin. She's a junior," Alex had done his research apparently. "Bobby's date is this senior named Maddy Briggs."
"Oh my gosh, that Maddy? Everyone in school is like crazy about her," Luke remarks.
The boys laid back on the roof and watched the sun begin to set. Sunsets were Luke's favorite thing, inspired by his favorite movie The Outsiders.
"Do you think they'll know we are each other's date?" Luke laid his head on Alex's chest and fidgeted with the seam of Alex's shirt.
"No, we're okay," Alex played with Luke's hair that rested just above his right ear. "I can promise you that."
It had been just about a month since the first night on the roof and Alex was happier then he had been in years. For once he could forget about all the things his parents had said. But just because he could forget for a bit didn't mean they weren't still saying it. The smile faded a bit each day but with Luke it regained its strength back. An endless cycle.
Their breaths synced up and they just laid atop Luke's roof in a quiet paradise only they would ever know about.
