Luke pulled out a box from the backseat and set it on Alex's lap.
"Open it. Choose something. Give it to me."
Alex reached his hand in and grabbed a cassette tape. It wasn't a regular cassette though, it was a love song they had recorded together a few months back. It was titled Love on the Rooftops.
"Here," Alex put it in Luke's waiting open palm. "Why are we doing this?"
"You'll see." Luke put the car in reverse and pulled out of the driveway. Soon enough they were on the dark and abandoned highway 101.
Luke took them along turns and twists, back roads and more highways, darkness and brightly lit streets.
"Dude, seriously, what are we going?"
"Since you wanna know so bad: we're going to the places we made these memories. So we're going to the place we got the idea for Love on the Rooftops."
"Oh," Alex thought it was going to be some breaking up scavenger hunt. But now he was excited.

The idea for the song came about in Mission Dolores Park. They were on the far end of the park, sitting between two very tall trees. It was fairly dark so when two girls walked by- hand in hand- they didn't see Luke and Alex, but Luke and Alex saw them. They thought of themselves on Luke's roof and started writing.
Love on the rooftops was born.
