"What if someone saw us?" Luke and Alex sat together next to Luke's bed in the dead of night. Alex was unable to sleep after the fair. His heart thunderer in his ears and his hands shook like he was holding maracas.
"Nobody saw us," Luke placed his hand down on Alex's leg because that was shaking too.
"You don't know that Luke. What if someone says something. There were a ton of people near the carousel and you held my hand on that. Luke, my parents— they hate me enough."
"Nobody hates you," Luke wasn't the best at consoling others.
"Luke, they do. They've said it straight to my face. Can we, just lay down?"
Before Luke laid down in bed, he crossed the floor and kneeled down. He slipped his fingers between two floorboards and pulled them apart. One slipped up revealing a small compartment underneath. Boxes and small items were placed there.
"What's this?" Alex looked from where he was.
"Give me your bracelet," Luke reached out for Alex's hand.
"What?" Alex looked down at his fair admission bracelet.
"I have to put it in our keepsake box, duh. Hand it over."
Alex struggled to get it off. Those things were indestructible. "Here," Luke crawled over and grasped the bracelet before tugging it off quickly.
"What else do you keep?" Alex crawled over and looked in, the moonlight shining into the hole perfectly.
"Well, I kept this receipt from the arcade and this song you wrote. This flower, this photo I took of you sleeping," Luke smiled and looked up Alex who was studying the photo.
"Ew, I sleep with my mouth open?" He crinkled his nose and handed the photo back, picking up a small journal.
"No, no wait." Luke leaned over and landed right on top of Alex who had the journal held above his head. Alex paused, just admiring Luke. "Please give it back."
"Why?" Alex flipped open to the first page and found what appeared to be a song, but it was too dark to see it fully.
"That's not for you, yet."
"When will it be for me?"
"Soon, it's not done yet."
Creaking.
Thudding.
