"Hello sunbae-nim, ah......agent 09......we had been over this many times had we not?" Doctor Choi sighed and put down his medical toolbox.
Yoongi had summoned water faeries to clean up all the damage on his way out and all that is left is Jungkook seated on am infirmary bed with his left calf lined with open gashes, golden energy pulsating within.
Doctor Choi put his sethoscope on Jungkook's chest, "your core is fully intact and operational. No other damage is observed other than your very dead and missing cells. So what happened this time?"
"I was up against Yoongi hyung in a friendly match. Usually it doesn't come to this," referring to his leg, "but I wasn't fully healed from the last mission and the cells gave way when I sent an equal amount of energy back to evaporate his waterfall. Yoongi hyung stopped right after."
Doctor Choi looks at Jungkook pointedly, "why did you do something to agent 87?"
Jungkook sputters, did he not do a good thing? Why is everyone, okay only Yoongi hyung whose logic flies out of the window when it comes to Jimin and now his main doctor, placing the fault on him?
"I did not! I mean, I did, but I had to," Jungkook groaned, "forget it, can you give me the rejuvenation serum so that I don't look like some fancy lightbulb?"
"That's the thing, agent 09. Your cell supply had been running low and you know that it is extremely difficult to cultivate them. This is the main reason behind the multiple reminders to never go beyond 50% of your capacity in a bid to conserve your cells and to pull you off missions for a month."
Say what? Jungkook didn't hear of this. So it wasn't entirely because of the evaluation that he is stuck in the Galactica base? Feeling guilt, Jungkook glanced to Taehyung who doesn't seem affected.
Doctor Choi continues, "we only have one of the rejuvenation serum customized for you left, the one you didn't use in the last mission, and we do appreciate your efforts for saving that. It is to be kept until a dire situation arises. You would have to rest while we work on the cells in the meantime. There is nothing else I can do here so I'll head back to the lab.
Sunbae-nim, if you are free, could I ask you some things regarding the current cultivation techniques?"
Taehyung nods, "I will go back to the lab with you."
Doctor Choi bids his goodbye to Jungkook, "rest well agent 09, I should be able to produce one dose of serum in a week."
Jungkook waves half-heartedly to the researchers. He is going to be so bored in the infirmary and there is no mochi for him to tease. He kicked the blanket with his good leg.
Then he tugged at his hair. Kim Taehyung. The source of the uncomfortable feeling in his gut. Sure, the specialist's report still stands but he couldn't help feeling like a jerk for blaming him entirely.
Jungkook feels even worse as he recollects what the director said word for word and realised that in no way did he mention Jungkook was pulled off missions for a month because of Taehyung's report. In fact, the only direct consequence was that Jungkook needed to pass a psychological assessment. Oh God......he screwed up. He can almost hear Jimin calling him a brat in his ear.
While Jungkook is in the infirmary thinking of ways to make up for his past behaviour to Taehyung, Doctor Choi is having the time of his life in the lab. He feels like he is attending his first ever science fair all over again.
Taehyung points to Doctor Choi's data, "The reason it takes so long to cultivate the serum is due to a miscategorisation here. Agent Jeon should not be treated as an elemental, who recover by absorbing energy of high purity, with at least 90% compatibility, from their primary element.
Fire and heat is an effect of his abilities and not his ability itself. He is technically 'energy' or 'power'.
This is also why only fire energy of above 98% purity can be accepted by his core. I believe processing the energy to such a high level of purity is why you have to take so long to produce a single dose of serum, yes?
Agent Jeon's powers are more dynamic. Look at how this pattern derived from his energy data shows repeated breakage and formation. It was observed in training that even without the host's consciousness, they can chase after their target and continuously attack.
Agent Jeon should be considered as a category of his own. After all, he is the only known star core with a consciousness and Galactica had to build a physical body to host him.
To get him back in the field, you can instead develop a serum based on his own powers or a combination of his energy and high purity fire energy so that his core would not resist."
Taehyung pauses in thought, "but this is only a short-term solution. We should solve the problem of his body breaking down whenever he exceeds 50% strength...... Doctor Choi, would you mind if I take a copy of Agent Jeon's files and work on this?"
"Of course, sunbae-nim! I haven't had a breakthrough in a while. I will send the files to you."
"Thank you. I suppose it is my fault."
Jungkook is not the only one feeling bad. When Taehyung was assigned to Jungkook when the agent joined Galactica, he had passed his case to Doctor Choi even though Taehyung is more qualified in the field.
Perhaps all of this wouldn't have happened if Taehyung is Jungkook's main doctor.
So really, it was because of him that Jungkook is stuck at the base for a month. Taehyung would have to make it up to him.
