“You don’t like this.” Lucas remarked as he observed Henry leaning against the wall deep in thought.
Henry looked towards him. “No, I don’t. Everything just makes this case… darker.”
“Well then you’ll love what I found on the family history.” Lucas grabbed some files. “Yesterday after you told me to find their background I told you her parent’s murderers were never found right?”
“Yes, did you find something about the murders?”
“Ah… no. Except that it was two different people.” Lucas replied before continuing. “It turns out that after Rolf Mengele, all the men in this family have been murdered around the age of twenty five to thirty. Most of the killers weren’t caught, but the ones who were killed themselves before giving away any information. The woman however seemed to live extremely long lives… unless they were murdered as well.”
“And through out all this time no one has caught the murderers and gotten information?” Henry frowned; this wasn’t turning in their favor.
“The other strange thing is that the family is completely pure German blood, each husband was a descendant of a Nazi or high ranking German. Both families always have a boy and girl… it’s so strange, almost like-”
“Like a breeding program for humans.” Henry finished as realization hit him. “They’re trying to create something… a perfect human perhaps?”
“A perfect human?” Lucas gave him a doubtful look. “How could someone hope to do that when their history is murders, the only thing to suggest any form of possible evolution is the fact that the older women’s doctors claimed they were as healthy as a person in their prime.”
“Hmm. That is interesting.” Henry began to feel uneasy as he heard this and decided to lie about his opinion. “But I doubt this has anything to do with Erick’s death.”
“Well this could.” Lucas took out an old autopsy photo. “A double swastika is burned onto the back of every woman’s neck in this family. From what I can see it could be they’re working to accomplish Hitler’s work… Finalize it.”
“We should tell Detective Martinez.” Henry replied, handing the photo back with a slightly disturbed demeanor.
“Tell me what?” Jo asked as she walked over towards them from the elevator.
“We think tha-”
Henry was cut off as Hanson bust out of the elevator. “Guys you won’t like this, Lucina’s in the hospital unconscious.”
Henry immediately through the worse, Adam had murdered her in cold blood, or at least had almost. Of course, just to be certain he had to ask. “Why, she was with Dr. Farber what happened?”
“She panicked over something according to Dr. Farber, he couldn’t calm her down and she hyperventilated before going unconscious. According to the doctor she should be fine, her brother’s friends are with her now.” Hanson informed them.
“Well we better go see how our suspect is doing.” Lucas replied as he sat the files down. “Ask her a few more questions.”
Henry shook his head. “It might be best to keep her calm so she can recover, after all it wouldn’t do us any good if she had another attack.”
“Oh, right.” Lucas replied. “I didn’t think of that.”
Lieutenant Reece stopped them as they walked out to head over to the hospital to get caught up on the situation. Henry could tell she wasn’t pleased that they didn’t know anything helpful for the case yet and wasn’t surprised when she announced they were going with them. A nurse directed them to Lucina’s room once they were in the hospital and soon they were standing outside the room where a lot of voices were coming from. The nurse that had led them there shook her head.
“Looks like that bunch still hasn’t left.”
“Who are they?” Hanson asked as he walked forward to look through the doorway.
Inside they found Shelly, Todd, Shay, and another young man and woman stilling around the room talking to each other and Lucina. The nurse cleared her throat to silence them. “Your friend has some more visitors. I would ask that some of you leave the room to make room.”
Shay glanced up and saw the detectives. “Got it… See you Lucina.”
Lucina shook her head in acknowledgement but didn’t say anything as Shay led Shelly, Todd, and the other girl out of the room. The only person to stay was the young man. Once the nurse left Jo turned to him. “So who are you?”
“I’m Ziggy.” The blond man said. “I’m a uh, friend, of Lucina’s.”
“Funny, Shay and his friends didn’t mention you.” Hanson replied.
“I haven’t really been around that long. Erick only introduced me to them a month ago.” Ziggy told him honestly.
Henry tuned their conversation out and turned towards Lucina. “How are you recovering?”
“Just fine… I’m used to this.” Lucina told him quietly.
Henry noticed Ziggy’s hand squeeze Lucina’s in comfort but didn’t question it, as much as he wanted to. Instead he just gave a small smile. “I’m glad to hear you’re better.”
“Will I have to go back?” Lucina asked. “…To the shrink?”
“I’m not sure.” Henry couldn’t help but feel glad that the girl didn’t want to go back.
Lieutenant Reece stepped forward into Lucina’s view. “I want to ask you some questions about what caused your attack. Can you explain why it happened?”
“I thought about it…” Lucina seemed to shrink under Reece’s gaze. “I couldn’t stop… I just panicked.”
“What do you mean it?”
“My past… my family.”
Henry could see her starting to shake slightly. “Lieutenant, I think that’s enough for now. She’s still a bit scared.”
“We need answers Dr. Morgan. She needs to talk.”
Lucas spoke up, finally making his presence in the room remembered. “Actually, I think you should wait too. You can’t get information if she gets worse because of how nervous you’re making her.”
Lieutenant Reece looked between them. “Fine. Lucina you’re well enough to leave tonight, we’ll give you tomorrow to recover as well before coming back to speak with you.”
