May -

For a week and a half, Byul and Jeongguk expressed their fondness for each other at school. Their affection for each other grew within each day and it drove the entire school crazy. The girls, who were once infatuated with the self being of Jeongguk, found themselves envious of Byul.

The two were the new 'it' couple. They were talked about all the time and eventually, Byul left her clique just to hang out with Jeongguk. It was never on purpose, more a coincidence. Jeongguk would always ask Byul to eat lunch with him and the two love birds would wander off in the big school campus to be alone.

Byul felt like she landed on cloud nine and her mind was filled with nothing but thoughts about Jeongguk. The feeling was refreshing and she loved the idea of well, being in love. Jeongguk was Byul's first everything - kiss, hug, crush, date, boyfriend. Jeongguk had never really asked her officially, it merely happened and they were both alright with that. Byul didn't need a special proposal to win her over.

The days to prom passed by and slowly it became two days before the big day. For some reason though, Jeongguk didn't seem like himself. He refused Byul's hugs and stopped asking her to eat lunch with him. Byul was too blind to see how Jeongguk was acting. She didn't do anything wrong, that was something she knew for certain. She only grew suspicious when she mentioned prom and Jeongguk said he might not go.

After school, she saw Jeongguk waiting for her at the front of the school. Walking up to her lovely boyfriend, she saw his frown on his face that he wore all day. "Hey, is there something wrong?"

"Byul.. we need to talk." Jeongguk dug his hands into his front pockets even further and he avoided eye contact with her.

Confused, Byul nodded and waited for him to continue.

"I'm not going to prom with you anymore." He sighed. Byul felt herself falling through the condensed clouds and landing on the concrete floor - hard.

Her eyebrows were knitted together and she tried to make sense of what Jeongguk had said, "Why not? What happened? Did I do something?"

"I don't know why you're faking such a big reaction. I mean, you never liked me in the first place and only said yes because you felt bad. Well Byul, no need to feel guilty anymore because this sick fool won't pressure you into going to prom with him. I've found someone else." Jeongguk's words hit Byul's heart like sharp darts. Every letter, word, sentence shot her like she was a target.

"Oppa, I'm not faking anything." Byul didn't understand how Jeongguk found out about that, even if he did, she had changed. Her feelings for Jeongguk were real, she no longer needed to act like she liked him because she really did. Yes, in the beginning she had created the selfish rumor for her own needs and yes, she had said yes because she felt bad, but things were different now. Byul's emotions for Jeongguk were so strong, it hurt to breathe sometimes when she was with him.

"And I'm going to believe you like I did before." The sarcasm ran thick through the tone of his voice. "Oh please, Byul. Tina told me everything, there's no need to explain yourself."

"What does Tina have anything to do with this?" Byul asked, rage filled her lungs and she choked out words of fury. Countless questions swirled in her brain and quickly consumed her.

Jeongguk peered up with sad brown eyes, the same eyes Byul loved looking into. "Tina came up to me this morning and told me you never liked me and I was some lie you made up so people would stop bullying you. It worked and you got me believing it too. Boy, how I was such a fool." Tears rimmed his eyes and he looked away before the first one rolled down his soft cheeks. "Byul, let's stop this whole thing. You and I, I guess, were never really meant to be. I already promised Tina I was going to prom with her anyways-"
