March -

Byul scurried over to her regular circle of friends - and their boyfriends. Greeting them all with a smile, she sat on the white table bench. Leaning over the round table, her cheek squished onto the smooth surface. She sighed heavily.

"What's wrong, Byul?" Ah Ri asked.

"I'm totally ninth wheeling right now." Byul's face lifted off the table and she rolled her eyes. "Did you know that Irene from Literature said that I didn't belong in this group?"

"Is that what's got you all worked up? You are the one who chooses not to have a boyfriend-"

"Or to like anyone." Her friends finished each others' sentences. Byul huffed and crossed her arms. "Have you even experienced a small crush before?"

Uncrossing her arms, Byul took a brief moment to think back. Ever since she was introduced to the world, she has never liked nor loved anyone besides her own family - which is just family love. Her heart has never raced or skipped beats or completely stopped because of a foolish boy. On top of that, her parents would never allow her to have such useless feelings. Truthfully, Byul didn't exactly know how to either. Shaking herself back to reality, she shrugged.

"I don't know how to, okay?"

"You're joking, it should come naturally. You know, going with the flow." Chaerin's boyfriend commented.

"Gah, it is so embarrassing being your friend sometimes. You should hear what they say about you in the locker rooms-"

"Hey, stop that." Tina's boyfriend hushed her up.

"What she's saying is that, practically everyone thinks you're going to end up alone or you have a body malfunction that doesn't let you produce feelings for someone."

"It's not that I'm not normal! I'm just not ready yet, why is that so hard to believe?" Byul slammed her hand on the table, startling her friends - and the other lunch tables.

"Well it's just weird how you've never been attracted to anyone for all the 16 years you've lived." Sohee's boyfriend spoke up in the silence.

"Byul, will you go out with me?!" A boy among the tables joked.

"Dude, why you even trying? She's going to say no anyways." His friend laughed with him. "It'll be a huge surprise if she even thinks you're attractive."

"Hey Byul, found anyone yet?!" A girl shouted at her right.

"Prom is coming up soon!"

"She's going to be alone for the rest of her life, I swear." People started joining in on the hurtful comments. Looking around, her friends were even giggling.

Getting up, she turned her back on the courtyard.

"Byul, wait-"

"Where you going? Byul! Come back, we're sorry!"

"Yah, stop laughing." Her friends called after her.

Byul's hands turned into tight fists. "I'll show them, I'll show all of them." She whispered under her breath.

-

Wandering the quiet halls on her own, she sneaked her way towards the girls' bathroom. Byul did this every time people made fun of her, since she wasn't as emotionally strong, she ran to the restroom to cry.

Left right left right, her head was constantly turning. Her body was crouching low for any teachers.

"Annyeo-" A voice startled her and she fell from her stealthly squatting position. Her bottom hitting the ground hard.
