Back at the station Troy goes to send the blood DNA to get analyzed. When he comes back, we all depart to go the café across the street. Troy keeps his promise for us to get to know each other better. So we play the childish, yet effective game of 21 questions.
“Is it alive?” Was Stephan’s first question.
Wait what? Is what alive? Thankfully Troy clears out the confusion before I have to go along with whatever Stephan is playing.
“Bro, that’s 20 questions.”
“What? Is there a difference?” Stephan asks with an extremely puzzled look plastered on his face.
“First of all, ‘bro’ really ‘bro’? What decade do you live in? I believe the correct term these days would be ‘bruh’. And yes, there is most definitely a difference between 20 questions and 21 questions.” I explain to the two.
“Well them if you know so much then why don’t you start?” Troy challenges.
“I think I just might since the two of you idiots have no idea what you are saying. First question: ‘How long have y’all been working together?’”
“Troy joined roughly six years ago and we’ve been partners ever since. Now do I ask a question?”
“Sure.”
“What made you take up this offer when you knew you’d be the first girl accepted in the program?”
“Well, it was more of a challenge to myself to prove to myself I am no longer a weak little girl, and I can and will stand for what I believe in.”
After I answer the question, there is a brief moment of silence before Troy realizes it’s his turn.
“Oh! Sorry. Wait pause the game.” I roll my eyes at him, we’re never gonna get anywhere with him, “Do these have to be professional questions?”
“Not really, I mean really and truly you could ask anything.”
“Okay, cool. And can we direct the question to both people from now on?”
“I guess. That actually sounds more fun.” Steph answers for me.
We continue the game with the new rules, and eventually I learn so much from the both of them. It was actually more fun than I thought, until…
“Are you still a virgin?”
“I- um… Yeah…” I casually turn away, but someone’s hand quickly cups my chin and brings my attention back to the table.
To my surprise, Troy has a very surprised expression placed on his face. “Really?” He asks with an incredulous tone.
“You can’t double question…” I peep out.
“Oh pish-posh, I’ll let you ask two in a row. But are you really?”
“Yeah..” I attempt to turn my head away again, but as expected, Troy uses both hands and cups my cheek this time.
“Hey, it’s okay. Actually it’s better than okay. There aren’t many people who are still as pure as you.”
I look at him and plead for him to move on, and thankfully he does.
