The first thought that came in to my mind the instant I woke up was that I was finally going to see them. I thought and dreamt and wished for this day for so long, and finally it’s here, but I have absolutely no clue what to do… I could stay at home all day, or run to the nearby town and hide there, or maybe I could even go MIA?

I let out a sigh of defeat. I couldn’t evade him however I would’ve liked to. The first issue arose as I slid open my closet doors. I briefly gave my wardrobe a once over before deciding that none of this would do. I mean I was going to see him for the first time in a decade… Wait, since when have I though about what to wear for him? Ugh! Frustrated with him and myself beyond means, I surprisingly managed to pull on a plaid button down paired with jeans that I rolled to mid-calf.

Not bothering with anything else other than brushing my teeth and washing up, I was ready to leave. Slipping on my converse, I decided to walk to the office again. Stephan greets me bright and early with a mug of coffee as he resorts back to his work. I look for Troy, but he’s not there and his office is vacant. I scale the entire building looking for him, but he is nowhere to be found.

Filled with worry and anticipation, I soon find myself at Steph’s door. Knocking, he gestures for me to come in.

            “What’s up?”

            “Where’s Troy?”

“Rivera? I don’t know. I thought he would be with you, but clearly he’s not.” If he’s not here, maybe he’s at home.

“Hey Steph, can I borrow your car?”

“Sure.” He tosses me the keys, “G3-38.” He calls out before I shut the door. I make my way to the department garage and look for parking space G3-38, and soon enough I find Stephan’s police car parked next to his personal one. I absentmindedly smile at the stickers his daughters pasted on his rearview window. If only someday I could have a life as joyous as his.

Unlocking the door, I slip into the driver’s seat and make my way to Troy’s house. Although I am still a little fuzzy on the exact directions, it is unmistakable to figure out which one is his. I make my way to his front door and wait as I ring his doorbell. I ring it a couple more times before I see an lady probably late into her 50’s walk to her mailbox. She waves at me and I kindly return the gesture. I turn around again to ring the doorbell once more before she speaks up.

            “Honey, are you his sweet?”

            “His sweet?”

“Yes, the one he talks about all the time. I think he said her name was Rae-something.”

“Yes ma’am that would be me.”

“Oh! You are just as pretty as he declares you to be.” I blush at her comment as she gives a small laugh.

“Does he talk about me a lot?”

“All the time, darlin’. All good things.” She has a slight southern accent.

I smile at the fact that Troy would mention me outside of the work force. “Ma’am, do you know if he’s home or not?”

“I do believe he is, though he did come home rather late yesterday night, brimming the new curfew.”

            “Oh?”

“Yes, I bet he is still asleep.”

            “Thank you.”
