Brantley groaned as his eyes opened as the light was starting to come in through the curtains. He rolled over to wrap his arm around Kassi only to find her side of the bed empty. That made his eyes open all the way. He didn't even see Barrett asleep at the foot of the bed. Which of course was weird for him considering he was always there. Brantley groaned loudly as he rolled over onto his back and looked up at the celling just trying to wake his body up.
Rolling out of bed he walked down the hallway. He wasnt prepared for what he was going to find standing in the middle of his hallway.
But there she was. Standing in nothing but a diaper. A little girl with a sloppy pony tail that was flopped to the side of her head. She looked up at him. "Uh hello.." He muttered as he looked at the little girl. Nyla waved her hand but then she took off down the hallway as Kassi stepped out of the bathroom. Kassi smiled up at her husband. "Good morning!" She said as she wiped her hands off on a towel and looked up at him again.
'What?" She smiled as she walked over and wrapped her arms around him.
Brantley locked his arms around her. "Okay. So I know I'm not drunk. I know I'm not hungover. I don't have a fever. I personally feel fine. Can you tell me why we have a naked baby in the middle of the hallway?" He smirked as he looked at her. Kassi smiled at him before she patted his cheek lightly. "Oh come on. She's not naked. She has a diaper on. Plus she just got out of the tub."
Brantley shook his head with a smile. He was use to anything at anytime happening in this house but this situation was something he wasnt prepared for. "Okay but its a naked baby in my hallway." He laughed.
Kassi sighed as she looked up at him. "Work." She muttered before walking down the hallway. Brantley followed her into the dining room. "Work?" He muttered as he watched Kassi pick up the small girl and put her on her hip as she walked into the kitchen. "Yeah work.. That's what I said." She muttered as she walked over and flipped the french toast that was cooking on the griddle. "What the hell happened with work?" He muttered as he grabbed a sippy cup out of the cabinet.
Kassi watched in amazement as he switched on the dad mode. Especially with a child he had never even met until well literally 5 minutes ago. She watched as he walked over to the fridge and filled the cup with Apple Juice. Once he screwed the lid on he handed it to the little girl who just had a smile on her face as she took it. Then she wiggled her way out of Kassi's arms and took off.
"Work." She explained again. "This girl she was caught doing something stupid. Her kid was in the car! She got arrested the cops called my boss. My boss called me. I met her at the hospital. We couldn't put her in the system until this morning so she came and stayed here. Don't worry we slept in the living room. We didn't want to wake you guys." She added.
Brantley nodded as he sat down on the bar stool. Kassi walked over and stood in between his legs. She laid her hands on his shoulder blades. "After breakfast I'll get ready for work. Take her over. Put her in the system. Figure out what's going on with the mother and start a process." I guess.. She sighed as she looked at him. Brantley recognized the look in her eyes. He knew that look. To Kassi that look was saved for when she felt defeated.
Brantley squeezed her hips a little tight as she looked down at him. "Or.. You find her another social worker. We keep her in our care for the moment and we go from there. Brantley looked up at her. He felt like his heart was going to pound out of his chest but he knew Kassi and he already knew that there was an attachement.
"Okay.. I'll call my boss."
