Jake entered the precinct confidently as always, left hand buried into his jacket pocket and the other lightly grasping a blue cup of coffee. He needed the caffeine, as now becoming a dad was draining. Jake never complains, he loves his son Mac. But he discovered that becoming a parent was a lot of work, needs a lot of attention and responsibility. That was his weakness. Being responsible. However, ever since Mac came into the world. He's became better with maturity, although still a child at heart. Cause without that, Jake wouldn't be Jake.

He lightly stretched out a yawn while opening the gate the the bullpen.

"Jake, over here!" Charles shouted, making Jake suddenly wince at a sudden headache rising in his head.

Jake dragged his sneakers, with one shoe having one lace undone, towards his best friends desk. It wasn't long till he abruptly slammed himself down on his chair next to Charles desk, slumming down into comfort. Fixing his shirt and setting down his coffee that was becoming cold, as his fingers cooled and his red skin drained back to his color. Boyle then swiftly swung his chair to face Jake and spoke.

"Thanks for coming in to help, I know you are pretty busy but I just wanted us to work this case together. Like the good old days"

Jake felt a little sorry for Charles. Ever since parenting was his priority. He never really had time to focus on their friendship. Working cases together became something almost in the past.

"Hey, it's no need to thank. It's nice to finally work a case with you" Jake then turned to look behind on a clock that sits still on a wall. "Need the hours anyways"

He sighed, only seeing the time was 5:35 in the afternoon. Once again missing dinner and family time. His mind then thought of Amy. Come to think of it. She seemed off, perplexed, before leaving the apartment. He knew his wife.

"How's Amy anyways?" Charles said, wanting more conversation. Knowing Jake's head was somewhere else.

Jake's head spun back round now focusing on Boyle. He cleared his throat and fixed himself on his chair

"Only saw her for a couple of minutes, but she is doing good. Dropped Mac home from school. He actually made a new frien-"

"New friend!? He isn't replacing Nikolaj, is he?" Boyle jumped, cutting off Jake. Ever since they became pals, he always wanted his child to be friends with jakes. So that the bond can last forever.

"Chill. It's a girl. I was surprised myself. She was new to the class apparently"

"Oh! Jake! This is great!! Mac can then finally carry the Charateristics of Jake-"

"He's Five"

"This could be the one for the future, Jakey"

"This is getting too weird. Anyways, she is a sweet wee thing, blonde hair and blue eyes...really vivid blue eyes" He paused, almost painting the image of Aprils eyes in his head. Making Jake feel funny about it. He continued "Quiet like Mac to be in fact... likes die hard and can recite the script"

"Yep sounds like the one to me Jakey"

Jake grabbed his coffee and took a quick gulp, setting it down with less caution. He then let another yawn escape his mouth. He hasn't slept well the past couple of weeks. Well, to be honest ever since they left the beach house that burned down, sleep hasn't been the same.

Jake never speaks about this, but he can't escape the memory Taylor dying. Her last words. The past keeps catching up with him and swallow him in this hole of guilt. Boyle took notice of his tired eyes, each day seeing the circles get darker and darker. He then sighed and took pity
