Things were calm. The howling wind lowered into a subtle, bitter breeze and the smacking rain vanished. The setting was ironic, as the fire was choked out and the Gothic ambiance was now softer. Almost an indication of everything was now to it's end.
Burning smoke was seeping out the cracks of the burnt wood. Small puddles rippled to the force of the whispering wind and the air smelt damp. But a fresh damp. Everyone's ears were stroked and nipped by the frosty air that brushed past their faces.
Jake took Amy under his arm, guiding away from the blackened mess that lay behind them and returned back to the squad. All were soaked. Everyone's hair was dripping, except for those who had hair.
Gina was sucked into her phone, raising her device to take photos of herself with the demolished building behind.
"L-O-L" She said while typing away "Sucks to be Charles"
Gina posted it on her feed, of course, to those who are apart of her Ghive. But Boyle didn't listen. Instead, among the huddle, he stood with his arms folded looking upon his cooked house.
Jake was dislocated from reality. Instead, his thoughts were clouded with Taylor's last breath. Her eyes hid so much pain that he didn't know of and he blamed himself. He felt horrible. Sure, she was a mythic bitch. But there was a reason behind it. She was still human. Right?
"You okay?" Amy asked, snatching him back into reality, taking him away from the squad. Jake did a sudden jump, batting his eye lids heavily.
"Hmph?" He replied, looking down at her.
She paused, observing his sudden numbness.
"What happened in there..." She said with a soft tone. "You are not being yourself"
Jake inhaled through his nose. Almost to give him a moment how to still process everything. It just didn't feel right. He looked back round to face the disgruntled house. He shuddered. Not in coldness, but in hate.
Anguished, so he was. He wasn't to blame himself . But he did. For so long he stood back and just watch her grow into something that wasn't Taylor. He hoped he would've noticed her hurt way before it was mixed into a psychotic personality.
Amy looked up to him, still waiting in anticipation.
"She is gone" He finally spoke "I found you on the ground. The antidote was no where to be seen. So, Jason made an offer..."
"Now, mind you jake. I like to be prepared for a lot of things..." He smiled, holding the antidote high in between his index finger and thumb "I'll give you an offer"
"I didn't want to lose you.So, I didn't accept." He paused "But, Jason wasn't happy. The choice I made wasn't good enough for him. So, he raised his gun"
Jake looked ahead into the distance, remembering him raising that gun to his direction.
"He was pointing it right at you. I did nothing but just cradle you. But..." he stopped.
A faint sound of a gun shot echoed in his head. Making Jake flinch ever so slightly
Amy's eyes were saddened and her brows knitted together. She placed her hand on his arm, reassuring him. But Jake looked back down at Amy and shook his head.
"She saved you, Ames." his eyes weakened "She took the hit"
Amy knew that "She" was Taylor. The thought of her saving her life, sent Amy into guilt and grief. It was almost like every bad she did to her, was wiped away.
"She was just in pain this entire time. I didn't see it Amy, I could've helped her"
"Jake" She sighed "Sometimes the human eye takes a blind turn on the things that people hide. We don't look behind the mask."
