Chapter 21

Costas family residence...

It's the small voice of little David, who holds the plate in front of his mother, Violet, with his little hands, waiting for more food. He smiles innocently at her with his blue eyes and the dimple in his cheek. The dimple inherited from his older sister, Lily.

His mother smiles at the sight of her young son. So she immediately puts another portion on his plate. The little one looks gratefully at the plate and thanks her.

Next to him is his father who looks at him smiling. Next to Ion are Anton and Ava. Next to Violet is Austin, Lily and Gene.

After eating, Anton looks at Ava. He smiles at her, shakes her hand lightly.

"Are we telling them?" He whispers, smiling.

She nods and smiles and he looks at his family with shining eyes, eager to say something to them.

The others notice that he and Ava are behaving a bit strangely.

"We would like to make an announcement," says Anton, smiling broadly at them and then looking at Ava.

Her green eyes gleam at his brown ones, which are identical to his sister.

He moves a hand behind her back, pulls her towards him while the brunette smiles at everyone present there.

"We got engaged!" Anton exclaims, his voice is full of ecstasy.

Ava raises her right hand and on her right finger is a gold ring with a diamond in the middle.

Everyone seem surprised by such news, and they smile and congratulate them.

"Congratulations!" Says Ion.

"I hope you will be happy forever," Violet tells them.

"Congratulations," adds Lily, "I am so happy for you!"

"Thank you!" Anton says.

He notices that his younger sister is staring at Ava's ring. He moves his gaze to her and Gene and smiles thinking of something and says:

"When do you plan to formalize your relationship?"

Such a question comes as a thunderbolt on the young girl, but especially of Gene, who looks at Anton with a kind with hatred. It seems that his girlfriend's brother is looking for a reason for discord again. Or so it seems to him.

"Oh, well, we..." She says, looking confused as Anton that afterwards she looks even more confused at Gene, as if waiting for him to say something.

And indeed, Gene can't help but say:

"Our relationship is strong without making it official."

"Really?" Anton raises an eyebrow, staring ignorantly. "I wouldn't be too sure. I'm sure my sister can't wait for you to put a ring on her finger. You have been together for 3 years."

"Anton!" Violet shouts at him, looking so sternly. "It's none of your business."

"I was just giving my opinion," he shrugs.

"No offence bro," says Lily, who is trying in vain to hide her upset from her voice,"but we don't want your opinion," she says and swallows hard looking bothered at her brother.

Gene notices her anger and strokes her hand lightly as he looks at her.

She smiles but still doesn't look at him. What Anton said made her ask some questions in her mind.
