I woke to a mouthful of white fur. Cinccino was slapping my face with her fluffy, white tail. Typical wake up call.

"Go away!"

"Cincci, cincii!"

I rolled off my bed onto the floor. Then, I dragged myself into the shower. That woke me up. I dried up, brushed, and put on a pair of jeans and a red tee. That's when it hit me. Today was Choosing Day!  I hurried down the stairs, followed by Cinccino, and inhaled my favourite cereal, Berry Loops. I tossed a couple to Cinccino, and said bye to my mom, who wished me good luck. I slung my backpack over my shoulder, and rushed out the door.

There was a light breeze blowing in Amberyellow Town as I sprinted towards the large yellow building, the School. I ran down the corridor, up the stairs and into my classroom. The desks had been rearranged to surround a large table. On the table were dozens of pokeballs in a thick glass case. I sat down next to Cole, a friend of mine.

"For once, Synne, you're not late"

"Dude, there is no way I would miss out on something as important as this"

"So, decided which type you're choosing?"

"Yeah, I'm going with Fire. How about you?"

"Poison"

"Cool"

I looked around. Me, Cole and five others were in the class. Our teacher, Mr.James walked into the class. He looked around and muttered, "Hmm, three more to come. Never mind. We will commence the Choosing". He went over to the table and typed in a code.

The Choosing is basically the day when you are allowed to choose a Pokemon, and then after a few days go on into the Catching Forest, which is like a miniature version of the Safari Zone. There we have to catch two Pokemon. If you manage to do that, then you get your Trainer License. If you can't, you have to stay in the school for another year until the next Choosing.

"Cole, you may proceed to the table"

Cole took a deep breath, and walked over to the poison section. In the Choosing, you aren't allowed to choose your Pokemon, only your type. Starter Pokemon, as a rule, had to have a Stage 2. So that limited the number of Poison-type Pokemon on the table. There were nine pokeballs. Cole closed his eyes and pressed a button. He put his hand next to an opening. The pokeball dropped into a hole and rolled out of the opening into his hand. He released the Pokemon from the pokeball. A tiny, blue Nidoran appeared. Cole's face broke into a smile. He picked up the Nidoran and looked into its shining red eyes. "I think I'll nickname her Lizzie". The Nidoran squealed in agreement. I had never seen Cole so happy before.

The teacher then called out a few names, and they chose their Pokemon quickly. Then he said, "Next up, Synne"

My heart beat skyrocketed. This was the moment I've been waiting for my entire life. I walked over to the Fire section and pressed the button. My excitement was almost uncontrollable. A pokeball rolled into the opening, which I picked up with trembling hands. I released the pokemon........ it was a Fennekin! He was so cute! I picked him up and thought of a name I should call him. The first thing that came into my mind was Apollo, so that's what I named him. As I walked back to the desk, Cole exclaimed that my face was redder than the Fennekin. The class laughed. But all that came to my mind was, 'Holy Arceus, I've finally got a pokemon'.

After a few minutes, everybody had chosen a pokemon.

"All right everybody, settle down. I have something extremely important to tell you"

The class looked up at Mr. James.

"Do all of you know about Mega pokemon?"

The class remained silent.

"All right. Thought so. So let me explain this to you. A few years ago, due to the result of scientists tampering with pokemon genetics to make them more powerful, Mega pokemon were created. Now a pokemon could be temporarily mega-evolved during a battle in the presence of a special stone, and a particular ring or bracelet worn by the human. Mega-evolution was thought to be a breakthrough in pokemon battling, because it made the pokemon look more intimidating and by increasing its power. But what trainers didn't know, and had to learn the hard way, was that after mega-evolving at least 50 times, the power of the pokemon would burn out, leaving that pokemon a cripple and unable to move normally, forget being able to battle. The pokemon lost trust in their trainers. It was terrible. Mega-evolution was banned from then on"

The classroom was engulfed in an eerie silence, only to be broken by Cole-

"But, why are you telling us this?"

"I was just about to get to that, Cole. A recent breakthrough by the famous veteran professors, Birch and Elm, has brought back the advantages of mega-evolution, but without harming the pokemon in any way. It is called Omega-evolution. So what happens in Omega-evolution? The egg of a pokemon is injected with a fluid called the Omega Serum. After a pokemon reaches its final evolution, and keeps getting stronger, it changes into its Omega form. The Omega form is permanent, and has no side effects. An Omega pokemon's power is equal to or greater than a mega-evolved pokemon's power. Since all of your pokemon have been hatched from eggs, we have made sure that they are all capable of going Omega"

Mouths were dropping open in awe. Me and Cole exchanged a glance. I looked down at Apollo, and I just couldn't believe how lucky we all were. All my thoughts were interrupted by the sharp trill of the bell.

"You have a week off to bond with your pokemon, and then we can move on to the Catching Forest. Class dismissed"

As we walked out of the class, Cole looked at me, then at Apollo and smiled.

"Your pokemon is awesome. You look like winners"

My eyes fell upon Lizzie.

"Likewise"

I said bye to Cole, and ran along the path leading to my house.

Just wait till Mom hears about Apollo and Omega pokemon.
