Daybreak (A Pokemon Story)

Chapter 4

I woke up the next morning fresh and energetic, which was totally unlike me. Usually I'm a zombie when I wake up. Maybe it was because it was the first day of Catching Week. Catching Week! Today was the first day of Catching Week. I looked at my alarm clock. 7:14. Crap, I had to rendezvous with Cole at 7:30. I practically ran in and out of the shower, put some clothes on, brushed my teeth for like 2 seconds and flung open the door. For some reason, I was always running when I left the house. I let Apollo out of his pokeball, not realising he was still sleeping. He hit the ground with a yelp. I stopped running and shuffled over to him.

He gave me a nasty look and growled, "Ki!". Looked like he wasn't a morning person either

"Sorry, bud"

He got to his feet with an indignant pose, and held his nose up with dignity. I chuckled under my breath and tackled him from behind. Both of us rolled on the ground, laughing.

After a while, we reached the spot we were training yesterday. As usual, Cole was already there.

"At least you aren't late today"

I just smiled, and my gaze shifted to Lizzie. She looked exhausted.

"Have you guys been training?"

"Yeah, we've been here since seven. After we saw your battle yesterday, we decided that Apollo was a formidable opponent. Anyway, we're famished.

That's when I realised me and Apollo hadn't had breakfast. I looked at him. He was grinning at the mention of him being a 'formidable opponent'.

"Uh, Cole.

"What?"

"We, uh, haven't had breakfast, so, we'll go home, eat, and then be right back"

He snickered. "I had a feeling you would forget to eat because I told you to come here so early."

He pulled out a couple of breakfast burritos from his bag, and a large can of pokefood.

"Gee, Cole, thanks"

"Don't mention it."

I sat down next to Cole and took large bites as we watched Lizzie and Apollo devour their food. Nowadays, being vegetarian was compulsory, because killing pokemon for food just wasn't acceptable. We finished our breakfast and got up.

"Synne, lets get started. I don't want to miss out on the first day of Catching Week."

Lizzie positioned herself right opposite Apollo and took stance as if she had rehearsed it.

Apollo just stood tall, her eyes unmoving.

"Lets start with the first move, Lizzie. Poison Sting!"

That took me by surprise. Poison Sting? Lizzie had already learnt Poison Sting?

She charged at Apollo, her horn glowing faintly. Apollo's reflexes weren't fast enough, and went tumbling backwards, but got to his feet just as quick.

"Apollo, hit her with a tackle!"

He sprinted towards her, and slammed into her full force. Somehow, Lizzie looked like she had been expecting it. She tanked the hit, then launched two powerful kicks.

"Quick, Lizzie, Tackle!"

"Not so fast. Apollo, get up! Use Ember and follow it with a Tackle"

Apollo was much faster. He spewed flames from his mouth toward Lizzie, then ran towards her. He was surrounded by flames. Whoa, Flame Charge! That shocked Lizzie and Cole, and Apollo managed to hit her hard.

"Lizzie, come on. Lets show her what we can do! Double Kick!"

Lizzie charged at Apollo, then spun around.

"Apollo, evade it by jumping!" He leaped into the air gracefully.

Cole smiled.The Nidoran stopped and rammed into Apollo, his horn glowing.

I gasped. He knew I was going to dodge by jumping. Lizzie hadn't even put much momentum in the run.

Apollo fell to the ground, wincing.

"C'mon, bud, you can do it."

Apollo slowly got up, then collapsed. He was poisoned and unable to battle.

"I can't believe it..... Lizzie, we won!"

He looked at me. "Synne, we better rush to the Center"

I nodded, then bent down and picked up Apollo.

A few minutes later, me and Cole were sitting on the sofa.

"Wow, you guys killed it. I guess we should've trained too."

"Don't sweat it. Apollo did awesome."

The nurse came over and handed to me Apollo's pokeball." He's completely fine now. All he needed was an Antidote, and some ES(Energy Stimulation, the latest tech) and he was fine. I'm surprised how much energy he has."

I sent out Apollo and hugged him.

"I'm glad you're okay, bud."

"It's a good thing we have to wait for the rest of them in the Center." beamed Cole.

"Right? I just can't wait for Catching Day!"
