When I reached my house, the door was already open. Huh? I ran into the house.

"Hey mom, I'm back!"

I waited for a response. It didn't come. I ran upstairs to see if she was there. She might have been listening to music or something or something. There were three rooms upstairs, including mine. I checked in all of them. Nada. I felt panicky. It wouldn't worry me this much, but I knew something was wrong. I looked down at my hands and they were trembling. Calm down, I told myself. Maybe she went for a walk with Cinccino. Who am I kidding? My mom would never leave the house on Choosing Day.

"Cinccino!!", I bellowed. "CINCCINO, MOM, WHERE ARE YOU?". My knees buckled. Through my teary vision, I saw a note stuck on the sofa. I stumbled over to it, and read it.

Kid, your mom tried interfering with something dangerous. If you ever, want to see her again, beat the champion. Come to Alpha Isle. But if you involve the police, or any of the gym leaders in this, you will lose what is most dear to you. That's all we can say.                                                                                                      -Team Alpha

This can't be happening to me. My fists slammed the ground as I cried. Get a hold of yourself. Think, think, think! Lose what is most dear to you. All I could think of was my mom. Should I tell the police? How will the kidnappers even know? But my conscience told me not to, and I never, ever doubted my conscience. Defeat the champion? What kind of sick joke was this? What was the guarantee that I would see Mom if I followed the instructions? I banged the ground yet again in my frustration, sending a sharp bolt of pain up my arm. It was my only hope. My mind drifted to Alpha Isle. Why Alpha Isle? I frowned, trying to remember everything I was taught about it. It was an island between Solaris and Lunaris, and had a great significance in the war. Something about strange behaviour in pokemon when they were on the island. I clawed at my hair, trying to remember more. Sadly, that was pretty much all I knew.

I stood up. I looked around me and thought, well at least know I'll get a taste of what its like to live on my own. My PokeNav vibrated in my pocket. I took it out and stared at the black screen for some time, and then turned it on. I held it until it focused on my face, and it then unlocked. Image recognition was one of the dozens of features on the new and improved PokeNav.

There was a message from Cole. I tapped the screen.

Hey Synne. Wanna come over? Me and Sal are going for a walk with Lizzie. Thought you might join with Apollo. Mom also gave us a can of her signature pokefood.

Cole

I cringed on reading the word 'Mom'. I pondered whether I should tell Cole about what happened. I decided against it. I would try hiding mom's disappearance for a week, and after that I would finally get my License.

I unclipped my pokeball from my belt, and pressed the button. Apollo appeared in a flash of white energy.

"Fenne, Kin!"

"C'mon Apollo, we're going for a walk."

I opened the door, letting the evening breeze into the house. Cole's house was a 10 minutes walk from here, but I decided to run. I broke into a jog. Apollo looked at me, and then followed suit. I flashed him a grin, and ran ahead really fast. The wind whipped across my face. Apollo was surprisingly fast. He bounded after me, caught up, and then overtook me. We reached Cole's house in no time.

"Synne. Why are you running like a maniac? Wait, is Apollo, actually running faster than you?!"

Cole laughed so hard, that Apollo got scared and skidded to a stop.

"Ki, ki!"

"It isn't even that funny!"

"Nido, do!"

I looked at Lizzie. She was walking over to Apollo. Apollo backed away, then his eyes widened in recognition and hopped around in excitement.

"Fenn, fenni!"

"Ran, nido!"

"Looks like they seem to be having fun." said Cole with a smile.

We walked for a while in silence. We finally reached a lush green field.

Cole put his hand on his hips. "Alrighty guys, time to get some training done" he announced.

I hadn't thought of training, but it seemed like a good idea, because Catching Week started tomorrow, and I wasn't going to get any Pokemon if Apollo wasn't strong enough.

"Okie dokie, Apollo, show us what you can do". Apollo looked up at me confused. "You know, try out your attacks."
