Day 3 November 7, 2013
8:23 PM

It was the last day of my week-long leave. It was raining hard outside with loud thunder and frequent lightning. Was even colder and darker for the hour. After doing the dishes, I climb the stairs to go back to my room when I heard a crash from behind, I did not heard it clearly because of the pouring rain and thunder outside, but I was sure it was a crash from something made of glass, so I turned around and faced the window in the living room, the curtains were dancing with the gust of wind coming through the opened window, I came running to close it, when finally done, I noticed our family portrait was missing. I took a step backward and step on something, when I turned down I saw the frame and the broken glass scattered on the floor. But the picture was gone, I knelt down and searched for it, I saw it under the single sofa and tried to reached for it but my hands won't fit in so I pushed the sofa which gave me the open view of the picture, it was on top of a dark, something reddish spot on the floor, Is it blood? I made a clearer look and noticed something beneath the wooden floor, it's like a hidden compartment. I tried to push the piece of the wood and saw an opening, I lifted the cover and it  showed me a box, I picked it up and opened it, I saw old photos of a woman and a boy about the age of 8.

, some were solos of each and some were together side by side. Both smiling. I didn't recognized them but I decided to keep the box to another place, in the drawer. I took our family picture and put it in an album.

I thought for a while about the blood-like spot on the floor, I wished it takes off, so I cleaned it with stain remover but it doesn't took off.

Frustrated and dismayed, I pushed back the sofa where it stands before, hiding the stained floor.

But I don't remember seeing the stain during my first day, I'm the one of course who ordered  the forwarders where to position them.

Suddenly the electricity went off.

I jolted

Looked around feeling my phone in my pocket, I used it's built-in flash light and made my way to the cabinetry, searching for the flashlight as the rain and thunder continued. I finally got it and switched off all the lights in there and went upstairs.

Convinced that the electricity won't be back that night because of the heavy rain, I also switched off the lights in my room and went to sleep after checking Peony on her bed.

3:02 AM

Uhmm..

I moaned.

Someone's licking my face, I tried to stop it and opened my eyes, I saw Peony's face, she then leaped from my pillow and run near the door.

I was still blury and dizzy when it comes to my senses that I'm hearing loud banging from outside the door, I realized the rain stopped already.

I got up and sitted on top of the bed, staring at the closed door, I realized the Thudding continued. Peony ran and hid under the bed.

Thud thud thud

I stood up from bed and got the baseball bat from my closet. Holding it tightly with both shakey hands, I contained myself, my heart beats louder than the thud now, I grabbed the flashlight with my left hand, and with a heavy heart, I managed to grabbed the knob with my sweaty hand while still holding the baseball bat, I flung the door open and positioned my hands crisscrossed with the flashlight on the left and the baseball bat on the right, it was so dark outside my room, from the partition to the next room, the thudding continues, as it appeared to me that it was coming from the next room, I walked towards it slowly, getting more sweaty and nervous of the thought of getting close to encounter an intruder and worst beat him with all the strength that I have.

The thudding stops when I was just outside the door, facing it.

'Sh*t! Tulong po Lord?'

I whispered to myself

I took a deep breath several times before reaching the knob. My palm was sweating, and my hands are shaking. For a bit I thought of retreating and run back to my room and call the police instead. But the loud bang was heard, this time it was at the door itself like someone bumped to it. I was shocked, my body jumped. I panicked right after, and run back to my room and phoned the police. After several minutes, I heard a knock on the front door.

Knock knock knock

'Tao po? Mga pulis po!'

'Opo sandali lang po mamang pulis!'

I shouted for the intruder to back off and be afraid whoever he was.

I slowly opened the door and run fast downstairs heading the front door.

'Magandang gabi po ma'am'

the two of them greeted me.

'Gandang gabi po'

I fake a smile trying to ease my fear and my heart slowly relaxed after seeing them.

'Tumawag po kayo kani---'

'Yeah, opo, tumawag ako, pasok po muna kayo'

I interrupted one of them to make them enter the house quick.

'Ano po b'ang concern niyo ma'am?'

they asked,  when we're seated.

'Uhm, kasi ano, I heard loud noises from the other room, baka kasi may ibang taong nakapasok ng bahay? B..baka pwede po na pakitignan?' I stuttered.

'Ma'am relax po kayo, kung papayag po kayo pwede po ba naming matingnan ang buong bahay?'

'Yeah, yeah, sure. Mas mabuti po yun!'

I told them while leading them the way. They ssearch all over the house and after few more minutes declared

'Wala naman pong ibang tao sa buong bahay ma'am at sa pagkakasuri namin eh naka locked naman po lahat ng mga entry way. Lahat gumagana yung lock.'

'Ah ganun po ba, mabuti naman po pala kung ganun, ahh maraming salamat po pala sa pagpunta nyo'

I smiled while rubbing my palms to each other, feeling relieved.

'Walang ano man po ma'am, kung may kailangan po kayo o magka-problema po ulit eh tumawag lang ulit kayo, paki handa lang po lagi yung pang-ilaw nyo baka bukas pa po kasi bumalik yung ilaw. salamat din po!'

They answered as I walked them to the front door.

'Sige po, salamat po ulit. Bye!'

As I waved them goodbye.

I double checked all the locks before goin back to bed.

Relieved and confident, I drifted back to sleep.

Completely unaware that the occurence hasn't stop or wouldn't stop.
