Chapter Six

I awoke in a room I've never seen before. My body ached and my head was pounding like a drum. I sat up slowly in the bed and looked around. It looked like a hospital room but with flame protection blankets. I glanced down at the bed and sure enough, the bed was covered with a thick extinguishing blanket. My gaze trailed back to the room, two doors, one was probably a bathroom while the other an exit.

A sound from the door opening drew my gaze up, Lieautant Karim entered. His grey hair shined from the light in the room and his gaze seemed bothered until he saw me. He masked his face quickly as he walked to the chair by the bed.

"Do you know what happened?" He asked carefully.

"I don't know. One minute Rekka pushed me out of the way and the next I felt like I was burning," I shivered at the memory. 

"It's been two days since that happened," Karim sighed and explained slowly to me, "We think Rekka had planted a bug on you, and when the Infernal attack you... He took that time to push you and break the vial containing it."

"I-I should be dead," I commented, "Why am I not dead?"

"Well, I really shouldn't be the one breaking the news to you..." He sighed and rubbed his jaw, "You... The bug awoke your third-gen abilities."

I stared wide-eyed at Karim. I felt my chest thunder and heat begin to form. I took a breath and tried to stay calm. Karim noticed my quickened breathing and leaned forward to place a hand on my back. His touch was so much cooler than my skin and felt wonderful. I took another couple of breaths before my sudden panic subsided.

"Feel better?" He wasn't looking at me but kept his cool hand on my back.

"Yeah," I breathed in, "I think I'm going to get sick."

I jumped from the bed and rushed to the bathroom door. I yanked it open before collapsing on the ground in front of the toilet. I hurled stomach acid. I jumped as cool hands pulled back my hair and then rub my back as i gaged into the toilet bowl. I felt Karim move around a bit. He then pressed a cool cloth to my forehead that i took gratefully. After my gags slowly went away i leaned against my arms on the toilet. 

I heard a door open and close. Some shuffling and Karim shushing the noisemaker. I raised my head to the open door of the bathroom to see Shinra and Takeru standing at the doorway blushing.

"I'll give you a moment to clean up," Karim said softly, "Call out to me if you need me."

I nodded and watched him leave the bathroom and close it after himself. I shakily got to my feet and walked to the sink. I rinsed out my mouth and looked over my reflection. I didn't look any different. I also didn't feel any different. 

I glanced down at my body. I could see why they were blushing now. The thin robe that they had me in was soaked with sweat and cupping to my body. It didn't leave much to the imagination. I pealed the cloth away and started the standing shower that was in the corner. Something on my body caught my attention, a scar covered my hip where the vial had broken and allowed the bug to bite me. I touched the scar lightly and the tender skin ached, tracing the small jagged shapes that trailed from my left hip towards my navel. 

I turned back my attention to showering. I took it one step at a time, moving slowly, while I took my time washing away the sweat. I soaped up at the same speed and watched the suds fall down into the drain. I leaned in the shower letting the water run over my shoulders for a time.

After a while, I felt ready to face the world. I turned off the shower and wrapped a towel around myself. I opened the bathroom door slightly and peeked out. All three guys were standing around the room chatting normally. Shinra and Takeru were still blushing while Karim didn't seem worried.
