My Granger,

If you're reading this it means that my plan has succeeded.

Unfortunately, I've known the harsh reality that I was to do this the moment we began our research on horcruxes, and how to destroy them. I would use my last apparation for your protection. Promises weren't in the picture.

I carried out a fair share of the promises I kept to you over the past few months, but unfortunately this wasn't one of them, nor would it ever have been. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.

I would apologize for my actions, but so long as you are safe, my soul may rest. I do not feel the need to apologize for keeping you out of harm's way.

From the moment I saw you trembling, dying at the hands of my so called brothers along that winding path we used to walk alone, I knew my life's purpose was to protect you. A flip switched in my mind, and suddenly after the many years I spent basking in ignorance, you had become my priority.

The moment I grew close to you I knew the foundations of our relationship would be built from a lie, but at least for a short while it was a beautiful one. I kept so many secrets from you, my dear. For that I am truly sorry.

So much of you remains in my heart, even though I am no longer breathing.

Should I live I'll burn this letter, as such an expression of affectionate words on a piece of parchment would be quite out of character of me. I'm sure if you were to find these sappy sentences while my heart still beats I would melt.

Don't be haunted by the terrors of that dreaded place. You are free. May this beach be the wildest place you roam. I hope you find peace within the ocean waves you so dreamed of, a cup of steaming green tea between your fingertips.

I know one day your moments created with me will bury themselves deep within your heart, but I can only pray you try to keep my memory alive in that vivid mind of yours.

The others will tell you more inside, have they not already. I brought you here for a reason.

Find me in your dreams, my love.

I'll be waiting for you until then.

- D.M.
