───── ❝ CHAPTER 9 PART 2 ❞ ─────༄
lucy had her head in her hands. she didn't expect the outburst she'd just had one bit. she didn't even know why she was as mad as she was. after all, jj was just her friend and so was kiara. they can do whatever they want. she couldn't help but think; why did that upset her so much? are her feelings for jj really that genuine? all these questions were on repeat in her head. overwhelmed, she took her apron off and stormed outside in dire need of fresh air.
taking one cool and crisp breath after another, she reflected. not only on her bitterness towards her two friends, but on herself too.
jj eventually came out and stood by the table outside where the girl he was searching for was sat, "hey... what the hell just happened in there?" he ran a hand through his golden locks and looked down at her.
"nothing." the girls eyes were fixed on her hands that were rested on the table, she had not one intent to look back at him.
"obviously it's something... you stormed out of the restaurant after screaming at kie and i... not your coolest moment, man." he pursed his lips slightly.
lucy's jaw clenched. man. after all the bonding they've done these past few days, how could he even call her man?
silence washed over the two. lucy fidgeted with the hair tie she had on her wrist as she pondered her thoughts for a second before sheepishly looking at him and asking, "do you like her?" the girl grit her teeth after she asked the question.
jj hesitated to answer, knowing whatever he said would hurt one of the two girls, he thought for a moment, to avoid his feelings for the girl who was right in front of him, he had to deflect somehow, "i mean i guess i do... but n-"
a lump formed in her throat, "okay cool! i've heard enough, i gotta go, buh bye!" lucy stood up and stormed away from the boy who didn't even get to finish his sentence.
the girl walked all the way home completely alone, wishing that she could be even slightly unfazed. why was she even so hung up on him and everything about him? all that was on her mind was him.
once she'd arrived home with tears glossed over her light eyes, her older brother who was seated in the living room hurried over to her, wondering what could've went down this time.
"lucy, what happened?" topper stood in front of his sister who finally broke and burst into tears, topper catching her in his arms and holding her close, "hey, what's going on?" he placed a hand on the back of her head as she cried.
"i like jj and he likes kie and everything's a disaster and i hate boys." the girl sobbed into his shoulder, her words almost entirely muffled as she spoke but he understood every word.
having no idea how to comfort her, he just pat her head gently, "c'mon, bro, he's not even worth all these tears. he's missing out and if he can't realize how totally amazing you are, that's his loss." as much as they argue, seeing his sister this sad completely destroyed him inside. seeing someone who was so amazing to anyone and everyone get this much hurt in return broke him.
"i just don't know what she has that i don't." a sob escaped her lips, "am i just not good enough or something?" she lifted her head from his shoulder and looked at him, her mascara leaving light black tear stains running down her cheeks.
