Nothing really changed, except each and every day, seemed to go by slower than the one before. The nursery became boring and my sister couldn't take it anymore, she wanted to go outside and tried her best to get permission, but, always, failed.
"Hey, Silverkit, see that bug over there?" Amberkit said from a distance, flicking her tail tip while giggling.
Silverkit perked up at her name, her ears tilting upwards. Looking around, she noticed what her sister had glanced at, becoming confused. "That's a leaf," She mewed, turning her head back to where it had originally been.
Amberkit smiled slightly, purring for a short moment. "If it was a bug, I bet you wouldn't have noticed it," She said, challenging her.
"Amberkit, you know I do not like it when you do that, its rude," Ashenfoot was sitting in her nest, cleaning her ashen colored fur quietly, with Darkenedkit by her side laying down.
Silverkit giggled, glancing at her mother. "Aww it's okay, she was only playing, right Amberkit?" She questioned, looking back at her, only to see her nod.
"Of course, I mean, how could a bug bring up such a discussion?" She exclaimed, tilting her head in a bit of confusion.
A familiar cat stalked in, her furred having leaves clinged to it as if her fur was made of velcro, yet another cat followed her. The kits had met him before, and knew his name, yet weren't fond of him as much as their mother was. Yes, he was young, but he also had eternal snot dripping from his nose. Now everyone understood why his name was Runningnose. Finally, a name that made actual sense.
The gray she-cat sat down, glancing at Ashenfoot with an elderly smile. "Have they met their father yet? I'm sure he would've come in to visit by now," She meowed with a crackled voice only elders had.
Suprisingly, Ashenfoot shook her head and replied with a soft tone. "No, but I had rather it be this way then the way we expected."
Runningnose was exchanging a glare at Amberkit, examining her whilst the kit examined him. It seemed as if they had know each other for centuries and were sworn enemies until they day they left and went to StarClan. Who knows, maybe even further.
Silverkit had walked back over while the two continued to discuss her father, in which none of the kits were even the slightest interested. They didn't know how important he was or even the ways of the clan, nor ranks. The only thing they knew is that the black cat in their den wouldn't stop sniffling, and the elders voice sounded as if she couldn't get some frog out her throat.
Once the two left, Amberkit couldn't help bit slip her gaze onto her father and begin to ask questions. "Since we're stuck in this hole of doom, can you tell us why that cat has leaves on her fur?"
Silverkit as well became intrigued, along with Darkenedkit, in which they all put their eyes on their beloved birth mother.
With a smile, followed by a little lauh, Ashenfoot purred. "Well, you see, those are medicine cats. They are members of the many ranks in our clan."
Darkenedkit shifted his paws, squeaking; "What're the other ranks?"
"There are plenty and each cat fits in one category at all times. I, am what tou call a queen. A mother in which is packed with kits or is in the process of raising them. You, are kits, which do not move onto the next stage until the breach of five moons passes," She stopped licking herself, returning her focus back to her young kits.
"What's the next stage called?" Silverkit spoke upm tilting her head upwards almost nearly all the way.
"Once you reach five moons, you will become apprentices, which are cats in training. There are two types. Normal apprentices and medicine apprentices. Runningnose was once one."
Silverkit grinned slightly after gasping. "If there's apprentices, who teach them?"
Ashenfoot leaned down, poking her gray colored daughter's nose with hers. "Then, there is the most productive and abundant rank. The warriors. Warriors are cats who've succeeded and passed their tests , as well as proven their loyalty. They are strong, fierce, and almighty; they protect the clan with their words of wisdom and if needed, claws."
Amberkit became confused once more. "What do you mean by claws?"
"They fight for the ones they vowed to protect, with StarClan at their side," She laid down, thumping her tail quietly against the ground.
"Then who train the medicine apprentices?" Darkenedkit managed to say, wobbling on his bad leg and falling over and onto his side.
Ashenfoot chuckled. "Well, those are the medicine cats, who spend their lives helping and healing anyones wounds or aiding them in any situation. Yellowfang and Runningnose are both medicine cats, and they helped me get through the hard times I had before you three were born."
Amberkit seemed to have zoned out after she had explained what she had meant by claws, though no one bothered her, having thought either she was daydreaming or didn't want to listen. Little did they expect that she was actually facisnated.
Ashenfoot let out a fierce yawn. "Then, there is the deputy. He or she is second in command and all cats must listen to his or her commands and words of advice. They play one of the most important roles in the clan and are strictly chosen."
Suddenly, as if Amberkit had been hit with a tail, sparked up and said exactly what was on her mind. "Who's the first in command?"
"That, would be the leader, which so happens to be taken by your father," Ashenfoot sighed, hiding the worry in her tone from her kits.
"Wow! Really? That's awesome!" The cream kit became excited, aching to hear more about her father, bit unfornately, she could tell her mother wasn't in the mood.
Darkenedkit had sat back up, his leg now being sat on. "How strong is h-he?"
"The most."
