Back in Washington D.C. Pierce enter his kitchen to get a drink when he notices a figure sitting at the table, The Winter Soldier, a gun on the table.
"I'm going to go, Mr. Pierce. You need anything before I leave?" His housekeeper, Renata calls out.
"No. Uh...it's fine, Renata, you can go home." Pierce responds.
"Okay, night-night."
"Good night."
Pierce opens his fridge and grabs out some milk.
"Want some milk?" He asks The Winter Soldier.
No reply.
"he timetable has moved. Our window is limited. Two targets, Level Six."
Pierce pours himself a glass of milk and joins him at the table.
"They already cost me Zola. I want confirmed death in ten hours."
Renata walks in, interrupting them.
" Sorry, Mr. Pierce, I..." She says and looks straight at The Winter Soldier "I forgot my phone."
Pierce sighs and grabs the gun from the table.
"Oh Renata." He says "I wish you would have knocked."
BAM BAM BAM
Dead.
Sam Wilson returns from another morning run. He pours himself a glass of orange juice when he hears a knock at the door.
"Hey." He says when he opens the door.
Anne, Natasha, and Steve stand at the door, covered in ash and soot from the explosion.
"I'm sorry about this." Steve starts
" We need a place to lay low." Anne adds.
"Everyone we know is trying to kill us." Natasha finishes.
Sam pauses before replying.
"Not everyone." he says.
Sam lets them enter and looks around before shutting the door.
The three of them are in the bathroom cleaning up when Steve notices Natasha looking sad and thoughtful.
"You okay?" He asks her.
"Yeah." She says.
"What's going on?"
"When I first joined SHIELD, I thought I was going straight. But I guess I just traded in the KGB for HYDRA. I thought I knew whose lies I was telling, but...I guess I can't tell the difference anymore."
"There's a chance you might be in the wrong business."
"I owe you."
"It's okay."
"If it was the other way around, and it was down to me to save your life, and you be honest with me, would you trust me to do it?"
"I would now. And I'm always honest."
"Well, you seem pretty chipper for someone who just found out they died for nothing." Natasha points out "Anne on the other hand looks pissed."
Anne is pissed. As it turns out, she's been working for the very people that made her loose Bucky for two years without knowing. She sits on the edge of the bathtub, spaced out as she holds Bucky's dog tags, now off of her neck, and cleans them.
"Well, I guess I just like to know who I'm fighting." Steve replies and starts talking quietly so that Anne doesn't hear "When Anne and I were kids we had a friend and she just so happened to fall in love with him. We both had to watch him die by the hands of Hydra."
Sam walks in and interrupts.
"I made breakfast. If you guys...eat that sort of thing." He says.
They file into the kitchen where pancakes, eggs, and bacon laid on nice white plates.
"So, the question is: who in SHIELD could launch a domestic missile strike?"Natasha asks.
"Pierce." Steve answers.
"Who happens to be sitting on top of the most secure building in the world." Anne adds.
"But he's not working alone, Zola's algorithm was on the Lemurian Star." Steve says.
"So was Jasper Sitwell." Natasha realizes.
"So, the real question is: how do the two most wanted people in Washington kidnap a SHIELD officer in broad daylight?" Anne asks.
"The answer is: you don't." Sam says and drops a file in front of Steve.
"What's this?" Steve asks.
"Call it a resume."
Natasha and Anne look at pictures of Sam with his para-rescue team.
"Is this Bakhmala? The Khalid Khandil mission, that was you." Natasha says " You didn't say he was a para-rescue."
"Is this Riley?" Anne asks looking at the picture.
"Yeah."
"I heard they couldn't bring in the choppers because of the RPGs. What did you use, a stealth chute?" Natasha asks.
"No. These." Sam says handing Steve another file.
Steve opens it and reads it.
"I thought you said you were a pilot." he says.
"I never said pilot." Sam responds with a smile.
"I can't ask you to do this, Sam. You got out for a good reason."
" Dude, Captain America needs my help. There's no better reason to get back in."
"Where can we get our hands on one of these things?" Anne asks.
"The last one is at Fort Meade, behind three guarded gates and a twelve-inch steel wall." Sam replies.
"Shouldn't be a problem."
Steve throws the file down. The cover says Falcon.
