I stood up, fixing my stance, and turned my gaze to the boys, Danny in particular, and gave him a small smile, him returning a huge one. And the sight honestly kind of made me sad.

I dropped my smile, "I think it's best if we stay away from each other," I said, his smile dropping once those words left my mouth. "That's a better chance to avoid the bitch named Amber," I said, and walked away.

I grabbed the to go bag and drink, and left the establishment.

I don't know where I'm going, but all I know is,

I'm right back to depending on myself and myself only.

Chief's POV

"She was finally opening up to me, I was getting a glimpse into what it is she believed and how she felt about being here," Danny whispered, his head dropping his gaze to his lap. "We held an actual conversation," he murmured.

"Danny, I love you," Amber said, and his head shot up, eyes yelling out in anger.

"I'm tired of talking to you about this," he said, and I was actually surprised he kept his tone calm and leveled, "This is the third time I've told you to stop fucking picking on her, but you're not getting the message. If you can't stop finding a bone to tug on, then stop playing doctor. It's really that simple,"

"I can't just not be around her. If you guys are going to be there, I am too," she said, and Danny just shook his head.

"You don't have to worry about being around me." he said, and her eyes began to water, "Don't you dare start crying because you brought this on yourself," he said, standing up, "I love you Amber, you're like my little sister. But she needs help, and I can't help her if every time you come around she either closes back up or walk off to ward off the drama that you don't know how to hold off. You have no reason not to like her, hell, you don't even know her! That's what I'm not getting," he said, and took in another deep breath. "Excuse me," he said, and I stood up out of the booth, letting him past.

"Please just give me time to calm down, because right now I'm fucking pissed at you and I don't know how bad I'll lash out if I continue down this route with you," was the ending of his speech and he walked away.

Now I'm right back alone with her, and again the only person who can pick up the pieces of this mess.

"I didn-" I cut her off with a sigh.

"Amber what's going on?" I asked, running a hand through my hair.

"I don't like her!" she exclaimed, and I shrugged.

"And why not?" I asked, and she popped her head back, fixing her stance to sit up straight.

"What?" she asked.

"You've been saying this whole time the reason why you're acting out against her is because you don't like her. So I'm asking you, why don't you like her?" I then paused, "What did she say to you earlier?"

"When?" she asked, playing dumb and I rolled my eyes.

"You know when Amber. Right after you went off on her about leaving the barracks."

"I feel like all of the attention is on her and it's taking away from our family relationship," she said, steering away from my question and I scoffed.

"I call absolute bullshit," I said, and she bit her lip, running her fingers through her hair.

"It's a vibe I get from her. I feel like she's going to start a bunch of shit and then leave," she said, squirming in her chair and for once I finally believed her.
