this town
i'll never leave
i have to leave
what is the saying?
"A bird born in a cage
thinks freedom is a crime."
this town
is a trap, a vise, a display case,
dirt roads or interstate exit
don't matter
they all lead back here
this town
i dream and i see the trailer parks
no escaping even in sleep
so i carry them with me
this town
you can't get clean
the dirt, it sticks
inside and out it marks you
this town
one day i will run and run
and i won't look back
not a the tidal wave shaped mountains
not at all the little hate filled lights
i wont look back, i swear i wont
this town
in the future, they will tell me it burned down
and i will look at my new life and all my new clean things
and i will say good
but it still haunts my dreams
and marks my skin and every move
the interstate, the dirt, the trailer parks,
the mountains, the lights that never dim,
this town.
