They're watching The Royal Tenenbaums while eating ice cream. Ellie's wallowed so much that she had to drink a few litres to hydrate her body once more. It's been a hard twenty-four hours but it's bearable with Isla. It always is.
Her best friend has wrapped an arm around her and holds her in what she imagines is a motherly way. Ellie never wants to leave her arms because she knows Isla would never let anything hurt her, she likes the idea of being protected for the rest of her life. In the arms of a person who loves her more than one could ever put into words.
Ellie's never felt heartbreak like this, but Isla has. So she's helping her navigate through the grief and giving her the space to be upset but also advice on how to move through it because it's going to be alright.
Isla never breaks her promises.
"I just always thought it was going to be him," Ellie whispers, as Margot and Richie are sitting in the tent and staring at each other with so much love. "I feel like I'd planned so much of my life with him and I don't know what to do without him."
"You just keep moving."
She raises her brow. "That sounds too simple."
"Because it is," Isla shrugs. "In life, you just keep moving through everything, whether it's good or bad. You can't stop your life no matter how much you want to. All you can do is just keep moving."
So, after the movie ends. Ellie stays on the couch and decides to act on how she's been feeling the last couple of weeks. She's going to drop out of healer school, be a little more sad, and keep moving until she figures out what she wants.
