OPENING UP
***In the following weeks, Isla didn't see much of her neighbour Spencer Reid. They passed each other occasionally in the hallway or outside the apartment block and exchanged a small smile of acknowledgement. Other than that they didn't really communicate. Isla didn't exactly know why but she was disappointed, maybe because Spencer didn't seem to be that much older than her and she wanted a friend her age. The closest thing she had to a friend was the old woman living down the hall and Isla barely classed that.
Every few days her mother would call asking how everything was going. Obviously everything was going okay, the cafe was extremely close to being opened and her apartment was beginning to feel like a home. However, at times Isla felt a little homesick. She missed her friends and family terribly but Isla knew that if she told her mother that then she would be turning up at her door in a heartbeat.
As her usual morning routine drew to a close, Isla threw on some clothes. She didn't care exactly what she looked like that morning since she was only heading straight to the cafe. Isla hoped that within the next few days she would be able to open. Decorating was the only thing left to do and all the decorations Isla needed were piled in her car leaving barely any room but the driver's seat. With her hair a mess, and wrinkled clothes, Isla headed out of her apartment.
***
Decorating was one thing Isla was excited about. The furniture was in its rightful place and the walls were painted to how Isla wanted them. The only thing that was left was to place the decorations around the cafe. Everything was in boxes and one by one Isla brought them into the cafe. Isla stood in the middle of the cafe she had been working hard on and took a deep breath and reached for the first box of decorations.
Piles of old books were placed on various small tables around the cafe, they were mainly for decoration although people could read them if they wanted to. The plants Isla had collated over the last couple weeks were scattered around the cafe and she placed a small vase of flowers on each table. It wasn't exactly how Isla wanted the cafe but it was good enough for now.
Now looking around the cafe, Isla was filled with joy. Seeing what she had been saving up for finally coming to fruition was surreal to her. She only hoped that the cafe would bring others joy as she had originally planned for. Isla's eyes scanned the cafe. She could picture people of various backgrounds sitting around on the chairs and sofas talking like they had been friends forever. Obviously, Isla knew that it might take a while to get there but she was excited anyway.
Packing up the boxes and folding in such a way so they were flat, Isla stacked them all up before placing them under one arm and stepping out of the cafe to place them in her car. As she stepped out however, she collided with something causing her to stumble back and drop the boxes in surprise. Looking up to see what she collided with, Isla made eye contact with a man.
