WORK FRIENDS

***

Isla hadn't seen Spencer in a couple of days and she hadn't heard from him much either. She wasn't too worried, he was doing his job. Due to his absence, Isla had been taking extra hours at work to pass the time. Occasionally she would lounge about at home - or even consider going on a run. Isla had no idea where the idea even came from.

As she finished serving a customer, a familiar face walked in. Isla hadn't seen him in a while, not since she encountered him in the park around a month ago. Upon first glance at Isla the man smiled and approached the counter.

"Long time no see." He said.

Isla smiled, "I guess it has," She said, "What can I get for you today, Iain?"

"You remembered my name?" Iain smiled.

"Of course, I wasn't making myself look like an idiot by not remembering your name for a second time." Isla said.

"So you did forget my name," Iain jokes, "And I'll take a black coffee."

"That I can do," Isla said and got to work making his coffee, "Is this the first time you've been here?"

"No, I came in a couple of weeks ago but you didn't seem to be here." Iain explained.

"Aww that's too bad, I hired Hazel and Patrick since the workload was getting a bit too much to handle on my own."

Iain looked around the cafe that was bustling with life. People from all different backgrounds were sitting sipping their drinks and eating their cakes and muffins. Today there wasn't a single chair not in use.

"I can see why, this place is incredible." Iain said.

"Why thank you Iain," Isla said, sliding his coffee over, "Since you've been so nice to me, it's on the house."

"Are you sure?" Iain asked.

"Of course." Isla said with a smile.

"Thanks," Iain said, taking the coffee into his hand, "I've got to run but I'll see you soon?"

"See you later Iain." Isla said as Iain exited the cafe.

As Isla watched him walk away, Hazel came up behind her, "If you keep giving the coffee away to your friends then this place will be going out of business soon."

Isla jumped slightly, surprised by Hazel's sudden appearance, "Don't sneak up on me like that!" Isla said, placing a hand on her chest trying to slow down her heart rate, "And I've only given coffee to two people."

"But Spencer comes in here pretty much every day and you always give free things to him." Hazel retorts.

"Well I'm the owner and I can give free coffee to whoever I want." Isla defends.
