MOVING ON

***

When Isla sipped on the hot chocolate she had made herself. It was a slow morning so nobody was there except for Isla. Hazel and Patrick weren't set to come in for another couple of hours so it was only Isla and the faint sound of the radio playing in the background. She was engrossed in the patterns on the countertop, so much so that she failed to notice the bell ringing, signaling someone had entered the cafe.

As they approached the counter, they cleared their throat causing Isla to nearly spill her hot chocolate down herself. Her heart pounding, she looked up and came face to face with someone she hadn't seen in nearly three weeks.

"Spencer!" Isla said excitedly. She placed her mug down on the counter before circling around it and throwing her arms around him, pulling him in for a hug. His arms wrapped around her waist, lifting her up from the ground slightly, causing her to let out a small giggle into his neck.

Spencer had been away on a couple of cases for the last four weeks. Normally he would at least have a small break in between each one, but this time he didn't. The cases had taken up all of his time and he never had any time to speak to Isla, much to both of their disappointment.

Pulling away from the hug, but keeping her arms wrapped around his neck, Isla's gaze was cast up to Spencer's hair, "You got it cut?"

His hair was now considerably shorter than the last time she had seen him. If she hadn't been so excited upon their meeting she would have noticed straight away.

"You don't like it?" He questioned with a frown.

Isla ran her fingers through the curls lightly, "I love it, it's different, but a good different."

Spencer smiled before the two parted from their embrace, leaving a gap between them.

"You should've told me you were back." Isla said, picking up her hot chocolate again.

"I wanted to surprise you." Spencer said.

Isla smiled before circling back around the counter, "Well go and take a seat and I'll make a coffee for my favourite customer."

"I'm not a customer if I'm not paying for anything." Spencer replied.

Isla shushed him, "That's not the point, now go and take a seat." Spencer chuckled lightly before taking a seat on the couch in the corner.

As Isla got to work making Spencer's drink, he sat in the corner of the cafe watching as she did so. Spencer was incredibly grateful that he had Isla in his life, having her around had helped him get back to his old self after Maeve's death. It was coming up to ten months since her passing and Spencer had found himself thinking of her less and less frequently. Obviously Maeve would always be a big part of his heart but as the months went on, he found himself accepting her death and moving on from it. Most of that was to do with his friends - most importantly Isla.
