Chapter 7

It’s been a week since my dad died and his corpse was just rotting in the kitchen seeing as I couldn’t move it and refused to touch him again. The knife was still plunged into his chest and there was blood all over him.

I have wiped all the blood off the kitchen appliances and the floor, leaving a blood outline of my dad. Neither Jessica nor Felix have spoken to me; they just ignore my existence now.

“Hey loser,” that was one of Jessica’s new friends, Britney.

“Freak,” another one says, Rachel.

“What are you looking at?” I hear Annalise snicker as I look up at them.

I sigh but keep walking with my head down.

Jessica just walks past, giving me a dirty look but she never says anything to me; it’s always been her ‘friends’.

“You can talk to me about anything Kyla.” My counsellor, Matilda, says looking at me cautiously. All the teachers I had suggested I see a counsellor after they heard about my mother’s death.

“I know.” I say looking at her calmly. Thankfully the school was paying for my counselling as I couldn’t.

“How have you been feeling lately?” Matilda says.

“Alright,” I say looking at the ground.

“Are things ok at home with your dad?”

I gulp. I hate people bringing him up because it just reminds me of how lonely I really am. “Everything’s fine.” I lie.

“Ok…” Matilda says nodding. “Anything happening at school? How’s the bullying going?”

“Ok,” I say in the shortest way possible. I hate coming here because I don’t want to talk about anything.

“Hmm…” Matilda scribbles down some notes and I just sit there, looking at the ground. “How often do you get bullied?”

“Every day,”

“Do you stand up for yourself?”

“No,”

“Why not?”

“I have no reason to.”

“Really? Alright.” Matilda writes a few more notes before looking at her watch. “Oh my! Look at the time. That’s all we have time for Kyla, I’ll see you next week.”
