Chapter 6

I wake up, my face stuck to the sheets from crying so much last night. I get ready for school, refusing to stay in such a depressed house.

Dad ignores me when I go into the kitchen. He doesn’t look at me.

“Morning,” I say to no one. “Cya dad.” I say as I walk out of the house and get no sound in return.

“Hey Kay! What happened yesterday?” I hear Jessica’s enthusiastic voice say.

“Nothing, my parents just wanted to stop me from overworking myself and take me out.” I say quietly but loud enough for Jessica to hear.

“Ha! I knew you overworked yourself.” Jessica says happily. If only she knew, I say in my head.

We walk half way to our next class, Jessica continuously talking about Brian so I just keep my head down and nod when I have to.

“Hey Kyla! What’s up with yesterday? You didn’t text or answer my calls. Something wrong?” Felix asks when he catches up with me and Jessica.

“Oh I was out with my parents. They think I overwork myself and wanted to give me a break.” I say keeping my head down.

“Oh, alright. I knew you overworked yourself. Kyla, take it easy, alright?”

“Ok,” I nod.

In class I sit at the back by myself and work quietly. None of the teachers question it, they just leave me be.

“Kyla,”

“Yes miss?” I say looking up at my maths teacher.

“Do you want to talk about what’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong miss.” I say shaking my head.

“Kyla, you were on time for class today and you came in and sat at the back all by yourself. You’re never on time to my class Kyla so something is wrong.”

“I’ll be ok miss.”

“Hmm… make sure you don’t shut out your friends Kyla. They are getting very worried about you.”

I nod. “Thank you miss.” I say and get back to work.

“What’s wrong Kyla?” Felix asks.

It was the middle of lunch and I had been crying in the girl’s bathroom.
