| Daniela La Rossi |My parents always praised me for every little action I did. Whenever it was dodging a knife or eating, they adored and felt proud of me. Though they were mostly busy, they made time, enough so I wouldn't feel lonely. I appreciated their efforts, truly, but sometimes it felt suffocating when they watched me so close, planted cameras in my rooms, zooming on me when I walked down the hall or watched me like a hawke while I ate.
Younger me payed no attention to it whatsoever, but as I got older I knew that there was something wrong with me, and they were not telling me. They began making their little observations less obvious, but I knew, and felt, that they were constantly watching me, at all times.
This did not stop my training however. I continued training as usual, learning how to handle a gun and knives, how to aid myself, stop bleedings, fastest way to kill someone and escape unfortunate situations. Whenever I would train the feeling of being watched and the hiding would drown and remain quiet, while I focused at the task on hand.
But what they never did was send me on missions.
As I was a single child, my mother and father never sent me on missions or even let me assist them. I never seen someone die, never seen someone bleed out. I was hidden and protected from such things from a young age, blocking any trauma that may come to me. I never felt someone's heart stop beating because of me, or had to wash someone's blood off my hands. I was as they call it, "an innocent girl in a world full of pain."
I was not stupid, and knew people died. Knew that there is guilt and pain, there is regret and that sweet feeling that overcomes you when you wish to get your revenge. But I have never experienced it.
So when I'm called to my father's study and a thick folder with a man's picture is dropped in front of me, I don't hide my confusion, or excitement.
"Diana, this is Matteo Romano. Your very own first target," my father says, and I look up at him, smiling.
"I'm finally sent on a mission?"
My father nods, before dropping his head. "I know that training may not be good enough in your opinion, but I believe that it taught you enough. Enough to take the biggest mafia leader in Russia."
I don't hide my gasp when it comes. "The biggest leader in Russia? As my first target?"
He nods. "I believe that you are capable enough to kill him, and disappear without a trace. Mistakes are allowed, but not big ones that may get you killed. I expect perfection. I have taught you all I know, and I expect for you to succeed. In this folder you will find everything you need to know. Do you understand?"
I look down at the thick folder, before looking up at him. I nod, and grab the folder, tucking it under my arm as I exit his office, two guards trailing after me. They are like my own guard dogs, in a way. They are always near me, escorting me or protecting me. They are constantly out and near the doorframe's of the rooms I enter, whether it is my own or the gym.
When I reach my room, I close it behind me and smile, looking at the folder in my hands. Matteo Romano, leader of the richest and most known mafia in Russia. Owner of the 10% of the country, 60% of all the hotels, clubs and bars in Russia, including strip clubs, prostitution or normal clubs. His home is like a castle, with high security and rooms where his own guns are kept only.
