"Let go of my arm, you bastard snake!" exclaimed Alev as she wrestled the snake half of Şahmeran to the ground. She pulled her arm even harder, trying to free it from the giant snake's jaw.
"Noodles! Let go of Alev's arm this instant!" exclaimed the Matrone, her midnight black hair flying as she whirled around. Her storm grey eyes blazed. The burn scars stretched across her face and she pulled her mouth into a frown.
"You named the giant snake attached to the lower half of your body 'Noodles'?" asked Mizuki, picking up the hem of her dress to wipe the saliva off the young witch's arm. She sighed in relief at the realisation that there were no bite marks.
Şahmeran crossed her arms over her chest defensively, "Yes, what of it?"
The younger witches flinched, "A fitting name, my lady." Alev said as she shot a glare at Mizuki.
"The Headpriestess really wanted to punish the two of you, huh?" chuckled the Matrone as she stroked the head of Noodles with a content smile.
"Matrone," started Alev, trying to contain her laughter as she prepared herself to ask her question.
"Please don't," begged Mizuki, sensing what her friend was about to do, "We're already in enough trouble as it is."
Alev ignored her friend and asked her a question. "Matrone, how do you... relieve yourself if both ends of your body have a head?"
The woman froze at the question, face blank as she tried to make sure she had indeed heard the fire witch correctly. "E-excuse me?"
Alev gulped, "Nothing, my lady." she responded, voice quaking as she finished brushing Noodles' teeth. The Matrone let out a sigh and pointed at the door, her lips quirking up into a smile.
"The two of you are dismissed. Tell the Headpriestess you two need not come here to take care of Noodles anymore. Gods, I feel like she's punishing me alongside the two of you."
Alev and Mizuki bolted out of Şahmeran's office, taking advantage of the rare mercy the elder witch showed them, and ran down to clean The First's statue.
"Only two more days of this torture then we'll be back to practicing actual witchcraft," said Mizuki with a tired smile. She cringed as she picked up what was once an offering, now just a little ball of moldy bread with some sort of spread on it.
"Speak for yourself," sighed Alev, wiping the sweat off her brow as she scrubbed The First's shoes, making sure not to break the ice in the process. "The bitch with the whip told me I needed to infiltrate L'Académie Des Dames if I wanted to be forgiven."
She groaned, "Told me it would be easier for me to convince her to join us if I meet her in her own element."
Alev let out an annoyed grunt as she scrubbed at the ice statue's foot, trying to remove what she could only assume was dragon's blood resin.
"Pretty sure she just wants me to get killed as soon as possible so she doesn't have to deal with me anymore."
"Yeah, I can understand that." Mizuki snorted as Alev lightly punched her arm.
"I hate you more than I hate Osman." replied the fire witch before exploding into a fit of giggles,
"That's way too harsh, what the hell?!" exclaimed the second witch with a laugh so loud it echoed in the small clearing.
"Wow... your weird hyena laughter echoed through a meadow. A gods damned meadow." pointed out Alev, a smile forming on her face as her golden-brown eyes glinted in amusement.
