Remus had awoken to the sound of the telephone ringing, he felt the bed shift and he put his hand out, grasping Kacie's wrist before she mumbled sleepily. "It's ok, I'll get it. Someone's been laying on my bladder all night anyways." He chuckled with his face still in the pillow and reluctantly let go of her wrist and felt her move from the bed. He sighed into the pillow, before turning his head to look at the clock. He had assumed it was early because the sun hadn't quite begun to peak through the curtains yet. But once his eyes adjusted to the dimly lit room and the red numbers on the muggle alarm clock on Kacie's side of the bed, he realized just how early it was. The clock read 3:30 AM. His brows furrowed and his lips pursed in slight confusion. Was he just still half asleep or did that seem like an ungodly hour to call someone just to chat?
No! His brain finally kicking in, he swiftly sat up and swung his legs over the bed, grabbing the nearest thing, being a pair of grey sweat that was flung onto the armchair, throwing them on, and jumping to his feet. He assumed she had taken the call in the small study/library that they had set up across from the nursery. Being that she was about a week from her due date, surely she wouldn't have gone for the phone downstairs. He made his way down the hall, passed the nursery door, and as he got to the door to the study, he could see her with her back to him. Her fingers fiddling with the spiral chord on the telephone handset that was still pressed to her ear. He could see her shoulders begin to shake and as he went to take a step towards her, he heard her choke out. "Yes, absolutely... we'll be right there..." and as she hung up the handset on the receiver, turning to see Remus had walked into the room, her sobs broke free.
