Chapter 12

Nanami continued walking forward, "I'll do it over there."

Ayumu and Nanami parted ways, Ayumu went down to the bush but seen dead birds, Ayumu then heard a loud thud and gasped getting scared a little. She looked to where she heard the sound and seen Nanami laying dead on the ground, Ayumu looked scared yet confused as to why Nanami was on the ground.

"Huh? Nanami!" Ayumu tried to go to Nanami but a voice stopped her dead in her tracks

"Don't move!" 

Ayumu stops in her tracks.

"Don't move an inch."

Ayumu starts looking left to right frantically, "Who's that?"

The voice never answered her question but instead told her to back up, Ayumu hesitated.

"Don't go down." The voice said.

"Nanami!" Ayumu yelled her name and squatted a bit but she got no response from her.

"Don't squat! Go back up!"

Ayumu looked up at the sky and seen a person hovering above them with a parachute.

Koichiro looked confused and shouted up at the person, "What's wrong?"

The person got closer to them, "There's poison gas! Don't go down there!"

(Y/N) and Mari gasped at the same time while the person kept telling them more information, "Poison gas coming out of the ground around here and settling in low places."

Finally, the person landed in front of them, while Mari grabbed Go out of the way.

"Gas?" Koichiro asked.

The person yelled down at Ayumu, "Hey, you! Hurry back up here!"

Mari looked down to where Ayumu was, "Ayumu! Do what he says!"

Ayumu hesitated once more and looked to where Nanami was laying, "But..."

(Y/N) was getting irritated by her hesitation, she already was feeling irritated because she couldn't save Nanami in time. "Ayumu if you don't get your ass up here I'll drag you my damn self!"

(Y/N) then looked at Go, "Excuse my language."

Go smiled a little at her.

Ayumu still wasn't coming up so Koichiro ran down there to get her, "Hurry! Ayumu!"

"Nanami!" Ayumu kept shouting her name.

(Y/N) huffed, "Hurry!"

Go was getting scared, "Ayumu!"

Koichiro grabbed her shoulders and the guy that just came told Ayumu that it was too late to save Nanami.

"She died instantly." He looked at Ayumu with a serious look on his face.

Koichiro finally brought the hesitant Ayumu up with the rest of the group and Mari ran to hug her, Haruo and Go seen Nanami's body and Haruo looked a bit defeated. Mari didn't want to believe that Nanami was gone, she crouches down and puts her hands over her face and starts to cry, Koichiro crouched down with her and started to comfort her. (Y/N) wipes some of her tears away.

"Nanami...I... I never meant..." Ayumu started but never finished.

The guy next to you started talking, "You just barely escaped. Only a thin line separates life from death," he looked over at Ayumu, "You were lucky since you were higher up, but she was unlucky. That's all."

Ayumu starts crying with both her hands over her face, she then started yelling and it does startle you a bit, "It's not that simple! Don't try to explain it so easily! It's my fault that Nanami died!"

Mari went to hug Ayumu, "It's nobody's fault."

(Y/N) wiped the remaining of her tears then crossed her arms, 'I totally blame it on Ayumu though...'

The guy started talking again, "Because of the shifting plates, who knows what will happen next," he turned and looked at Mt. Fuji, "If Mt. Fuji erupts, Japan is done for. It could happen in a minute or tomorrow... Or it might never happen again."

Go looked at the mysterious guy, "Mr. Onodera said, before Japan sinks, Mt. Fuji would erupt."

Ayumu stopped crying and looked in the guy's direction as well, "It's possible Mt. Fuji will erupt, but Japan will never sink. It's impossible." Ayumu looked down at the ground. 

(Y/N) hummed, "I don't think it's impossible, an island can sink into the ocean due to high tides and I believe these high tides can last up to years. It's also possible that during an earthquake the ground of the island collapsed and fell straight down into the ocean. But what do I know, I'm not Mr. Onodera."

The guy looked at (Y/N) for a bit and smirked, he then turned around put his helmet back on. (Y/N) put her hand over her heart, 'what the fuck was that!? That was hot!'

The guy strapped himself back into his harness and his fan started up, "Gas could show up anywhere around here. It will be a miracle if you survive."

Koichiro reached his hand out, "Wait." 

The guy turned around, "Oh, right. I can give one of you a quick lift to somewhere safe, but with the fuel that's left, I can't come back," he sets his eyes on (Y/N), "Do you want to come?"

(Y/N) almost choked on her spit and pointed at herself, "M-me?"
