Chapter 23

Percy's POV

I couldn't understand girls sometimes. Annabeth was the only girl I could understand. And now I couldn't understand her.

'Wise Girl!' I called her over. She ignored me. 'I saved you a seat.'
She looked in my direction and something flashed on her face. It looked like anger, sadness, misery, happiness and confusion all at once. Then she took a seat next to Kayla Knowles, Austin Lake, Will and Nico. Will and Nico exchanged concerned looks.

Annabeth hadn't been attending any of our get togethers and I swear our summer holiday homework was starting to gather dust. She had been ignoring me for a week and a half now. I couldn't understand why. Was the universe showing me that I was a normal kid who can't have my crush as a friend?

At biology, she actually took a seat next to Drew Tanaka for heavens sake. Drew Tanaka could have been a daughter of Venus - I learnt about Venus in Latin class. She was no match for Piper - but gosh she almost had Jason spelled.

Basically, Annabeth was ignoring me. I had no idea why or what I could have done. The others always exchanged uneasy glances as Annabeth cold shouldered me. They definitely knew why she was cold shouldering me. I was waiting for them to tell me, but that would be a in a few hundred years, perhaps.
With no idea what I had done, I obviously took all my time trying to figure it out. It started after the last get-together she had attended. I wondered...
Annabeth had seemed quite cold after Piper had called her over and shown her something on her phone. What could it have been? Something so distressing that Annabeth had changed completely? I couldn't think of anything!

After I went home, still feeling drained after all that school work, Mrs. O'leary greeted me.

'Leary!' I shrieked in order for the bloodhound to get off my face. 'Bad - girl!' I stammered as the dog licked me some more. I took a stick and threw it. 'Get it!'
Mrs. O' Leary ran off to get the stick.
'Good girl.' I got up so that she wouldn't jump on me again.

Estelle was sitting inside and was reading something. She didn't get dyslexia or ADHD. She was reading a novel. She was sick with a fever, so she hadn't gone to school.

'What's it about?' I asked after I took a seat beside her and checked her forehead.
'Have you heard of Olympus?' Estelle asked me.
'Yeah, why?'
'It's basically about these heroes. They have your names, you know! All of yours - your friends and Annabeth! Even you!' the way she said Annabeth. It told me Annabeth was a sister to her.
'What?'
'Well they are common names.' Estelle offered. 'That aside. These heroes have to save the world from the Earth - Gaia.'
'Hmm...' I thought. It sounded familiar. Maybe I read the same books at Estelle's age.
'Anyways... I'm on the part where Percy and-' she coughed. I didn't think it was because she was sick. 'Annabeth fall down into Tartarus holding hands.'
'Nerd.' I muttered. 'Greek nerd.'
'I can't wait to start the last book!' she buried her nose in the book again.
I chortled and left her to it. Then my face went sad and miserable again.

After Tyson died, nothing helped me. Nothing - but Annabeth. I was able to live because of her. Not live as an stay alive. Live as in enjoy life.

Annabeth's POV

Why was I ignoring Percy? I couldn't bear to see him. I was angry at him for being so cute. I was miserable about Luke's warning. And I was sad that I was angry at him for being so cute. And I also didn't want to risk anything for him. What with Luke. I had a bad feeling about his warning.

At the party, while I got in bed, I unblocked Luke and tried to check his messages.

Annabeth, I hate you and Percy both - so I'm warning you - if you date that guy - or even look at him lovingly - you will both regret it - L

I gasped at the message that night and couldn't sleep. Piper also didn't sleep because the next morning when I woke up for school she was still in bed and evidently hadn't gone for her usual morning run.

It had been two weeks since I was ignoring Percy. Two whole weeks. I wasn't even sure how I was doing it. I was just doing it. Percy seemed miserable, and that was why I was miserable. I didn't text him or call him to explain because then he'd know I liked him - and if he didn't like me back, another pile of misery to add to my shoulders. Finally, I was done with it. I texted him.

Percy - A
Oh - Hi - P
I'm... sorry I've been ignoring you.
Sorry??????????- P
I had to. You won't know it - I have to Percy.
Look Annabeth - if this is about Luke's message... I suppose he sent one to you?- P

Look Annabeth. We're just friends - we'll make that clear ok??

Ding! Percy had informed the group. Ding! DING! Ding! DING! the others went crazy and started calling me names.

I got ready. Not to bad just a rock band T-shirt and some baby blue jeans. I also quickly ate some bread with jam smooth like butter (A/N: Blame BTS for making this song. I couldn't resist adding the lines)

Now that I was ready, I took my bike and cycled to Nico's. It wasn't far. Will was there before any of us. I think he and Nico were hanging out earlier.

'Hello, Annabeth.' Percy said quickly and scratched his neck.
I felt cheered up. 'Percy!' I tackled him with a hug.
'Hey!' Percy seemed so glad it brought tears to his eyes. He wiped them quickly and sniffed. 'You are very annoying.'

He made a pouting expression and walked to the party; though his eyes told me he was much more happier than he was letting on.

If only I could be happy with him. Together.
