Annabeth's POV

The next day at school, Percy was waiting for me.

'I was waiting for you!' he punched my arm playfully. The touch made the area tingle.
Yesterday was so close, it could have been. It would have happened. Darn Piper sometimes.
'Um- Earth to Annabeth?' Percy waved his arm in front of my face, 'Are we going to go in or are we staying here...?'
'Ha ha, very funny, Jackson.' I said shortly. I tried to scowl, it only made him laugh.
'Now come on before Miss Bhavna kicks our butts.'
'Okay that was pretty funny,' I said.

We walked in, and surprise surprise, Rachel greeted us. And another surprise was that Luke seemed to have enrolled in Goode.

'Percy!' she said, 'Look, I'm so sorry...'
'Cut it out, Rachel!'
'I miss you! I broke up with Alex... Because I like you more.'
'A colourful story, but I like someone else.'

I felt my heart shatter. he liked someone else. I bet it wouldn't be me. That would be too much.

'Who?'
'Uh...'
'Fine,' she said stubbornly.

It was raining heavily, I looked out. a student had left a door open. Shoot.

'Oh no,' I said, 'There's a flood.'
Students were screaming as water rushed into the first floor. It was up till our knees and the level was rising.
'This aint a flood it's a tsunami!' Percy cried out.
'That's an exaggaration,' I said, 'A tsunami would be twice as deadly as a flood-'
'Woot, Woot! Wise Girl in the house!'
'Shut up,' I grumbled, 'Seaweed Brain. Let's wade to the stairs and go to the second floor.'
'I'm all in for a swimming contest-'
'No, Perce, the water level is rising-'
'All students must rush to the second floor!' a teacher called.
'How will we go home in this?' Piper asked as we wade through the water.
'Hi Pipes,' I looked out, 'I don't think we'll be going home, to be honest.'
'what?'
'Well,' I said, 'Car's and busses can't take us, and anyone would drown in that.' I said, 'I mean, look outside,'
'So we'll all have to stay here- for the night?'
'Yeah,' I said, 'Well, it's fine,'
'Fine?!' Piper cried out, 'You have a funny idea about fine.'
'I mean- no one has died, have they?'
'Yet.'
'You're panicking,'

The water level had risen at an alarming rate. I was trying to help other new students and the youngest of the school. Percy grabbed my hand.

'Annabeth, they can take care of themselves, come on.'
'I refuse to... Look! That kid over there is panicking! He can't swim!' Okay, I was panicking now.

Then Percy did something unexpected. He lifted me in his arms. I thrashed. Trying to get down, and failing, of course.

'Percy!'
'There's no need to swim!' he said, 'And you can't stay here longer, look- they're going. Annie, there are teachers to take care of this. Now we have to look after ourselves and-'

The doors gave away. Glass broke and kids were taken under water. Teachers helped them out.

'This is relatively close to a tsunami,' I said nervously.
'Come on!' he said. Then he started wading in the water.
'Let me down!'
'Nope,' he said.
'Why?'
'Because you'll run after the students trying to help them!'

I groaned. He wade through the water. I was starting to shiver, the water is cold. He held me tighter. We reached the stairs and panted. I didn't realise I was still close to him, hugging him. I pulled away, feeling tingles again.

'Thanks,' I said, 'Honestly, I don't think I would have gone through so quick.'
'Well,' he said scratching his neck, 'You are pretty light.'
I kissed his cheek, 'Nah! You're just a gentleman.'
'Am not! I'm just a normal teenager!' he said but I could tell he was blushing, even in the darkness.
'Um- sorry to mess up your flirtathon, but I got cocoa- whoa Annie, you're sneezing hard!' Piper jumped in. I felt my face burning.
'Cocoa? What is it, Christmas?' I said with a laugh
'Nah, dude,' Piper said, 'Just- cold'
