CHAPTER X: The winter ball
The way back home was the most awkward, uncomfortable and uneasy situation I'd ever found myself in. After Aiden busted us making out, he left the room and Eric chased after him in a rush. I spent a few more minutes sitting at the bed in shock, with the trace of Eric's lips still on mine. Then, I just stood up and headed to my own room to go to sleep. Tyson tried to wake me up to go to Stella and Amy's room, but I wasn't in the mood.
The morning after, I was mad. Like... I had been holding back for the sake of his relationship, for his own sake (and mine), but he had to fuck it up. Now he was probably feeling guilty, as he should: he had cheated on Summer! But the worst part wasn't that, not even that I was guilty too... The worst part was knowing that he had given all of that up to kiss me. Even if he had been under defenses and fragile at the moment, he was the one who kissed me. And the thought of it was killing me.
We stayed silent during breakfast, not even our friends talked, sensing something was wrong. Aiden's piercing eyes stared at me with intensity while Eric's only avoided mine at all costs. Stella and Amy also looked at me with curiosity, both of them already coming with something up in their minds. Tyson's innocence and cluelessness made him pay no attention to us and just devour the food before him.
The ride on the bus was not any better. Tyson tried to talk to me animatedly but my mind and thoughts were somewhere else, turning our conversation into a really weird monologue about Tyson's strange habit of taking pictures of sleeping people. Amy and Stella tried to chime in on the conversation from time to time, but it was useless because of Tyson being really immersed in his own speech.
When we arrived to the school, I was really thankful it was Sunday and we didn't have to go to class. I rushed Amy and Stella to go to the car and in no time we were inside Stella's mom's car. Throughout the whole ride to Stella's house, I felt my friends' eyes shamelessly set on me, trying to figure out the situation. Mrs. Bonham, though, was really glad to have us back and asked curious questions that were answered a bit too quickly.
When the three of us were finally alone at Stella's room and after dropping all of our stuff on the floor, I turned around to meet their eyes and simply blurted out:
"We kissed."
Four eyes widened with surprise and excitement, then greeted themselves to make sure they'd heard right. Amy's jaw dropped and Stella's hand covered her mouth incredulously. Amy ran to me and made me sit on the bed next to her, while Stella, like always, made her own way to the desk chair.
"What!?" Amy was the first one to yell.
"You guys kissed!?" said now Stella. I sighed, pinching my nose bridge with devastation. Suddenly, Amy seemed to realize.
"Shit, Summer," she hissed, driving her hand to her forehead.
"Oh no, you're an accomplice of cheating!" Stella said.
"Stella!" we both yelled back.
"But how did it happen? Like... damn, man, y'all are pervy," Amy inquired, trying to joke about it.
"He was the one to kiss me," I explained, my eyes set on my hands.
"Wait, what!? Okay, I wasn't expecting that one," Stella said.
"It was all so weird," I continued and explained the rest of the story. When I finished, Stella's and Amy's eyes met each other and they talked silently.
"This is serious," Amy finally spoke.
"No shit, Amy. I sure am very aware of it."
"Uh-oh, Shakespearean English, it's getting worse," she said. I rolled my eyes.
