Lunch couldn't have come any slower, just when (Name) thought that class was boring it got even more tedious and mind-numbing. Rather than paying attention, she used her class time to reflect on what she was going to do. She had to tread carefully now, each step could result in her tumbling backwards. After contemplating, (Name) decided to gather proof of Sylvia's schemes then work up the courage to talk to the principal. Camera footage, witnesses, a confession, anything that would act as leverage against the wicked witch. And (Name) was going to do it all by herself. Since she was the one who got herself into the mess, she would be the one to get herself out of it too.
Although an itty bitty part of her wanted to see Ray beat some sense into people.
Only a little bit.
Just a little fantasy of hers. (Name) wasn't going to go down that path. Then she'd might as well be on Adelaine's level.
(Name) was at her locker, retrieving her lunch bag. Now that the weather was warming up her locker wasn't as stuffed. It something that she looked forward to every school year during the springtime, in addition to countdown to summer break. Taking the old lock that she still hadn't replaced, she hooked it back into the loop. As she was fiddling with her uncooperating lock, a pair of arms came from behind and wrapped around her torso. (Name) smiled, already knowing who it was. Leave it to Ray to always make an entrance. "And where have you been all morning?" she inquired, feeling his warm breath tickle her skin as he rested his face by her neck. It was his favourite thing to do, there wasn't a time where Ray didn't wound up laying his chin right next to her face. It showed everyone that he was hers and she was his, and it was comfy. Killed two birds with one stone.
"I slept in."
"Ray, you can't just attend classes only if I'm there."
"Mnnngh but there's no point if you're not there! Although, I don't have a reason to skip school as often."
He took her lunch bag and slung it on his wrist, freeing up her hands so that he could hold them. "As your boyfriend, I have to walk you to class. All of 'em," with a goofy smile, he peppered small kisses all over her face. (Name) laughed, his light pecks tickling her face. Though Ray was sweet to her even as a friend, (Name) still wasn't used to his lovey-dovey side. Not that she didn't like it, she loved it. There was something heartwarming about seeing Ray's usual scowl fade into a bright smile when his eyes landed on her. It made her feel more than loved, noticed. And above all, wanted.
When he pulled back to look at her, Ray's smile was replaced with a concerned frown. One look at her face was enough for him to know that she was conflicted. It was too obvious. She didn't have that happy glow to her, her eyes drooped with a hint of tiredness, and the ends of her lips slightly downturned into a light scowl. (Name) looked restless yet so exhausted, there was something that bothered (Name) and that bothered Ray. "You don't look too happy today, what's wrong?" he murmured gently, eyes reflecting a sense of remorse. She flinched, "What? Where'd you get that from? I'm fine!" He shook his head, pulling at her cheeks teasingly, "Don't lie, I can see it written all over your face. You're not very discrete, baby. Now tell me what's wrong." He plopped down against the lockers, pulling her down to sit on his lap. "Time to talk, you know I'm not a very patient person," he hummed, unzipping her lunch bag and twisting the cap off of her thermos. Grudgingly, she started talking.
"Last week, these girls came up to me and asked questions about Adelaine."
"Lemme guess, they were just like her hm?"
"Spot on. Man, since when were you so good at deducing and reading emotions?"
Ray thought about it for a while, absentmindedly scooping a bit of her lunch onto the spoon. He brought the spoonful of food up to her mouth, "Mmm, fighting does take a lot of observation. You gotta think as fast as you act." Skeptical, she turned to look at Ray. "I can eat by myself, you-" while she was talking, Ray gently wedged the spoon into her mouth, depositing the food before pulling out the clean spoon. "Make sure you chew thoroughly, don't want you to choke," he reprimanded. Scooping up another generous pile of her lunch, he urged her to continue with her story. Swallowing, (Name) looked disheartened as she played with the hem of her top. "They ended up spreading rumours, saying that I was jealous of Adelaine. And that I came up with this elaborate plan to get her to leave the school," she confessed, feeling a little better getting it off her chest. She didn't need to carry the burden alone anymore. Getting the horrible feelings off of her chest lightened her malaise instantly, it was comforting knowing that she wasn't on her own anymore.
