Chapter 7: PlayDate

I change into my scrubs as fast as I can. I meet Gavin at the door he gives me a shy smile
" I am on Nazi and Dr William's service today"
Dr William is the General surgery head and Nazi is an aspiring general surgeon. I feel bad for Gavin
"I am on Dr Smith's service today ugh"
"Any chance we could trade," he says jokingly
"I wish" and we part ways
Heather is on Dr Koracick's service today he is the head of Neurosurgery and is a royal pain in the ass.
Isabelle and Anthony are on Cardio today under Dr Avery ah they are lucky.

I head towards the OB/GYN floor and I see him. He is in with a patient I take the chart from the nurse's station and start reading it

"Katie Bloom 36 years old in for vaginal delivery she is 8 cm dilated but only 3 minutes apart"
this means that her baby is not ready to come out even if she is dilating I look towards Dr Smith at once. He realises my concern and says "Ms Bloom has a birth plan and we will try to stick to it for as long as we can meanwhile she will be under close observation.

"My husband and I have a birth plan and we would like to stick to it C-section is out of the question.

Dr Smith and I head out.

"You know that C-section is the best option right now then why are we not convincing her"
"Dr Roy we have to keep our patients request above everything-"
"Even if they are wrong and might cause only harm to them"
"M listens to me.." he called me M he has never done that "... I am the attending and my decision will be final if god forbids anything goes wrong it's on me. not. you," he says sternly and walks away.
I let out a frustrated grunt.

All five of us gather at the cafeteria
"Dr Koracick is a genius he diagnosed the tumour by checking few symptoms and then was proved right by MRI ... someday I wanna be him," Heather says
" You mean being an even bigger pain in the ass than you are now," Anthony says and we all laugh
"Say whatever you seem fit no one can beat him in neurosurgery"
"Dr Avery is sharp and precise he let us watch the open-heart surgery to remove the tumour it was as if he was performing so beautiful and mesmerising" Isabelle exclaimed.
"I agree with that " Anthony says and Gavin Heather and I are shocked.
"What? the guy is an artist I am just agreeing to facts"
I catch Anthony smiling while looking at Isabelle.
"No matter how cruel Nazi is to us she is an excellent surgeon today she assisted Dr William in twisted bowel surgery and she did a perfect job," Gavin says with a spark in his eyes
"Dr Smith acted like an ass he knows the patient demands are wrong but still he is complying to it" at the same time my pager started beeping it was Mrs Bloom
I rush towards her room

The nurse told me that she was fully dilated but her contractions were 2 minutes apart
"page Dr Smith" I saw the monitors and saw that baby was in distress

Dr Smith entered and analysed the situation he convinced Katie to get a C-section as now it was the life of her unborn baby at stake.

We rushed her into O.R. meanwhile I and Dr. Smith were getting ready for surgery. While scrubbing he broke the silence and said "Good catch Dr Roy if you did not reach her room in the time it would have been too late so good job"
I felt proud of myself.

The surgery went without any complications and a beautiful baby boy came into the world.
Katie and her husband thanked Dr Smith for saving the baby's life.

Outside the attending's lounge
"Hey we should celebrate tonight how about we go to Jack's Bar across the street"
I was going to agree but remembered Harvey
"I am so sorry I cannot make it tonight I have a friend come over from NYC so I will be spending time with him."
His smile slowly disappears and a forceful smile comes on
"Ah that's fine it-" I cut him off and say "I might come there with him after all we will be bored holed up in an apartment"
He smiles with heart again and says "See you there then ... M"
He called me M again why do I like it when he calls me M.

I dismiss the thought and get a move towards my house.
