An Announcement

12 December,

It was noon. The sun was right over the head. One felt thirsty. One drank water again and again, but still, one was awfully dissatisfied. There was some noise outside. We were in the examination hall and there was a pin drop silence inside. I was only looking at my paper as I had already completed writing it. Half an hour before the bell rang, there was an announcement through the PA system.

"We are here to announce the final results for the Cultural trip to the Netherlands. The students who got selected are Lewis, Yusef, Samyu, and Zerina. Congratulations, students."

As soon as I heard my name, I became literally very happy and busted into laughter. It was on my bucket list to go on an exchange program ever since I heard about it at school and everyone in the classroom started congratulating me. But something made me the happiest when I heard my best friend Zerina being called in the final results. Yes, Zerina and I are childhood friends. We've grown up together for almost 12 years. Never had I imagined that I would be traveling abroad with my best friends. Zerina is the naughtiest but indeed a mature girl student in our whole batch. I was a studious and yet an all-rounder. Since after our grade 10 got over, we took our desirable course and ended up in different classes knowingly. She meets me during our snack breaks and I meet her during our lunch breaks and gossip about everything that is happening around. I was always aware of what's happening in her course group and so did she.

Back when we submitted our application form for the scholarship program, we almost daydreamed and discussed how will it actually look if we both get to travel alone together but in the end, we told ourselves that it is impossible.

Thinking about those old times and realizing that it is possible just made me get so worked up and I wanted to get out of the hall, meet her, and scream saying that we both got selected and it is happening, girl!

Finally, the exam got over, I ran down the stairs and I found her running to me. We hugged each other, screamed, and jumped out of happiness. YES, WE GOT SELECTED!

Lewis and Yusef, Who are they?!

Lewis is a good friend of ours. We were not really very close back then. He knows me and I know him. We've been to many pieces of training and conferences together. He is a very open mind to everything and the nicest person among all of us. And Yusef transferred from our school during elementary school and came back to our school for his high school degree. I never had any idea about him, even his appearance. There was also this incident where I went to another guy and I started to call him Yusef, I know that is very embarrassing of me. Zerina knew who he was. His good competence and discipline took him to the end. But trust me, all four of us were crack heads.

For the next few months, we were busy with our board exams and as soon as we completed it, we started working on our presentations for our trip and went out together for many purposes. We came to know more about each other during that interval of time and finished the whole airline process. I am still glad that we were given that time of opportunity before we departed because that enabled the bond, love, and support between us.

I left my fifty euros in India. Imagine leaving 4450 rupees at home? What will I get to eat there? Stay tuned to know what happened later.
